Need help on planning on building a system board

I'm thinking about putting a system board in my garage. I made two sketchs at 25 and 45 degrees. They would both be 8 ft wide. I have a 1.5x2 ft beam that's keeping me from doing a 40 degree so I'd have to build it at a steeper angle to get the 2x6s pass the beam while getting the most height out of my wall.

I do not climb as much as I used to so I'm thinking the 45 might be too hard for me and I'll end up hating it. Should I go with the 25 degree wall? I have a few concerns that because the 25 is a shorter wall, I might lose interest and I won't be able to use the standard set-up that most walls are set for (12ft). I guess I could reduce the height of the kickpanel but i've heard to not go shorter than a foot.

I attached the sketchs from a side view. They'll both be 8 ft wide

I'm also looking into a moonboard or tension set-up.

Do you have a pool? check youtube  kris climbing pool or Jason rives climbs pool wall.we built 2 of them never got so much use out of pool never to hot to climb.

No pool and I don't have room outside for a outdoor wall

Moonboard on 45 degrees would be brutal. Unless you climb 12+, I don’t think there is anything on the moonboard that would be reasonable at 45 degrees. The only moonboard setup I have worked with was 40 degrees, and I have to try hard on V4s. Additional 5 degrees would probably shut me down completely.

Tension board will have more easy options that would still be plenty hard on 45 degrees. But at least you would have options for warmup jugs, and ability to do circuits on jugs, as well as having harder problems. And I always feel that my skin is the first thing to give up on the Moonboard, while on those sweet wooden Tension holds you could go longer.

But I would still go for 45 degrees over 20, personally. 20-25 degrees overhang is my happy place. I don’t think I need to do more training at the angle that I’m already climbing my best. 45 would be a lot more challenging, but better in the long term.

I'm on my third system board.   You're right about the angles, 45 is too steep.

I recommend 30-35 degrees (Mine's ~32) for a number of reasons, but an important one is that it's not steep enough to need a kick-panel. Just put your starting footholds about an inch off the deck.

Mine is 5ft wide and that's plenty.   You can't see them in the photo because my finishing holds are between the joists to get more height.  Homemade oak footholds.

I think you'll find that 4 to 6 move laps are fine.  You can always do multiple sets, down climb or add weight.

wouls something like this be worth considering (red line) ? You could also put that last portion at 45deg instead of vertical.  Obviouly that wouldn't be a system board per say, but seems to me you could have some nice setup posibilities with this configuration.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
