Leaving Permadraws on Natural Bridges, etc.

I came across this blog post today, which has pictures of brightly colored permadraws hanging off of a really impressive natural bridge in Wyoming.

The author, who is not a climber, comments on how unsightly the draws are, and I agree. If you're not a climber, it just looks like trash on the wall. I am a climber, and to me it still looks like trash on the wall. It's not just climbers who enjoy a feature like this. This type of issue creates friction between climbers and others and could possibly even lead to future access issues. It's not worth it.

I feel the same way about boulderers leaving chalk marks all over every piece of rock within eye sight of many trails. It's a shame climbers don't think about this stuff more often. I think metulious used to sell camo bolt hangers. Wonder if anything like that would ever catch on.

it looks like trash to me.  but then so do bolts, empty holes, eroded crag bases or enhanced belay platforms, piles of shitty TP, etc.

Happy to be doing my part to increase user engagement and keep the REI overlords happy!
