how did  you get in contact with Tom Wandall? I want to resole some shoes, sent him an email, he never responded. Are you supposed to just show up at his shop?

Tom replied to my initial message within a day last June. I used the email listed on his site - twshoemaking@gmail.com

His shop is out of his home in the east bay; I don't think he does drop-ins

"Buy a new pair. You have plenty plenty of uptions that costs less than a resole + rands + shipping "

You must a way better shopper than I am.

I don't think that it's even close, even if I am cheap enough that I don't want to pay shipping for a single pair if I can avoid it...

Friction Fix in Fayetteville, WV, had a super quick turn around time for me (less than a week) and did a great job. http://frictionfix.com/climbing-shoe-resole/

A resole + Rands is more than $37. Plus $15 shipping....you can buy a pair of shoes for less if you wear size 7. Look at Backcountry or the REI Outlet.

I just dropped mine off at the Gear Room in SLC and had them back 4-5 days later looking good. This is a second reole on these shoes and the fit didn’t change.  Not sure what rubber he uses or if there are choices.  $60 for two rands and two half soles.

For reference, these are 5Ten Pitons which are super stiff board lasted trad shoes (2008 5.10 TC Pro equivalent)

They said they have been in business for 30 yrs, so obviously their system works.

Sounds like Sears......

I seem to remember that Komito Boots In CO did my shoes this way.  He scheduled me a time weeks out.  It was better than 6 weeks but I was still without my shoes for multiple weeks.

The work was OK. My main issue was that he opted not to replace one of the rands and it developed a hole within a month or two.

At the end of the day, he did a good enough job to keep climbing on the shoes long enough to wear the rubber out.  I just had them resoled again.  I’d use Komito again if I was close by.

The best solution is to buy another pair.

Yeah, but he's not talking about Solutions, it's TC Pro's.

And I have too many pairs of shoes anyway, sure shouldn’t buy more. But it happens that one of the projects this spring does require the already broken in, tight TC Pros from the shoe collection.

I’m thinking about getting C4 on them..,

The Gear Fix in Bend is my new go-to. They do a great job and are consistently priced. As of February they were looking at 4 weeks turnaround time.

Turnaround is seasonal and depends on many factors.

Here is one for 75https://www.adidasoutdoor.com/fiveten-brand?gclid=Cj0KCQiAn4PkBRCDARIsAGHmH3f0aBs7meSJbOpjz0B2LxLepEauU-P_x-LmdrAFjVep0CrQ31t0EKEaAh4oEALw_wcB
GearExpress has 13 shoes under 80 bucks

R&R charges $10 to ship

there are plenty of other resolers who are cheaper than $40
resole your shoes before you destroy your rand

it should cost you no more than $35-40 for a resole and $20 TOTAL shipping (if you even have to ship). $60 worst case

GearExpress has no shoes under $60.

I just had three pairs resoled with new rands from yosemite bum and they are the best/cheapest/fastest resoles I have ever received. I can’t tell the difference in rubber between C4 and Evolv Trax SAS and I exclusively climb C4 rubber. Most impressed by their generous rand replacement. They replaced the whole front section, not just the tip of the shoe. No change in fit. 7 days door to door for $45/pair with rands and shipping included. Almost too good to be true.

In the end, I got my shoes done by Flophouse Resoles in JTree. He did great work, and the turnaround time was very fast. About a week in the shop, total time door-to-door with mailing from Seattle was about 2 weeks. Everyone else was listing 4-6 week turnaround time, and I didn't want to wait that long. Prices are comparable to everyone else. Rubber options are C4 and Onyxx (I got C4 on my shoes).

Would use again.

Quick turnaround upon request, depending on amount of work/shoe quantity... Also cash is King ;)

I have been using Dave page cobbler in seattle for 10+ years. Has shoes for a week or less and then 3-5 days back to you.
He uses which ever rubber is stock for the shoe but will use what ever you want upon request
