CAMP Nano 22 Issues

I've had probably 8 of these things (I've owned about 16) become unusable without any substantial wear. The gates simply stop closing. These were bought at different points in time from different retailers so I know its not a limited problem. My whole rack is Nano 22s and Nano 23s, and I've never had this issue with the 23s. See the picture below, you can see that the biners are not heavily used - They're still anodized in the baskets for fuck's sake!

Edit: I emailed CAMP and they were really friendly, said they've updated the design to address this issue, and are sending me replacement carabiners. I've updated the thread title to reflect that

I only have one that I bootied and put on an alpine draw that does the same thing. It will still close if you flick it or tap it on something so I use it if I stick clip so I can skip using tape.

And yet you keep buying them?

Not since I had the second one die on me. But thanks for the insight Xan.
Edit: fixed a typo

Did you try lubricating at the hinge?

CAMP gear "in general"sucks

My Wild Country Heliums (wire gates) do this from time to time and I just push the wire gate kinda hard left or right (if Open/Close is North/South then I'm talking about pushing hard in either East or West directions). Usually pushing one way makes it stick more and the other way frees it up. Def annoying on lead though.

Try WD40.

I've also heard (previous MP forum on this issue) that if you contact CAMP they will replace carabiners that are having this problem. Might be worth checking out. I love these carabiners for racking gear, but I haven't had this problem yet. My plan is to contact them if this does start happening though. Let us know what they say if you choose to try to get them replaced!

I've noticed this problem with Camp Nano 22's as well. Lubricating helps, for a while, but it's bad enough that I've noticed it recurring in particular with those carabiners (I've had to oil them a lot more often than any of my others).

Easy fix with lube.

The lube suggestions are absolutely correct - if I lubed these they'd likely have proper gate action again

But at the same time, I feel it misses the point. Of all the carabiners I've owned over the years (from a variety of brands) I've never had to lubricate any other than those that were booty. I have 6-year-old nano 23s that have been left out for weeks at a time in the rain that still open and close without a hitch.

I'll email CAMP and see what they have to say.

Would be curious to hear what that result is. I’ve had a similar issue.

FWIW never had this issue and I like them, but you probably climb more than me.

I’m constantly having this issue with my BD Oz and having to lube them.

Bicycle chain lube or some other actual-lube-and-not-WD40 product and don’t lose any further sleep.

I have many nanos, and despite hearing about this issue frequently, I've never had them happen on my biners. Just contact CAMP and they'll send you new ones.

These carabiners are amazing and while I've also found that they can stick from time to time, (about 5% in my experience) CAMP is really good at giving you new ones.  For the weight and size they're the most functional non-locker I've found.

I have numerous of the 22s (going on two years) & have never experienced this issue. Maybe I just lucked out.

I've had the same problem many times. A few of them had the gate sticking open when brand new (CAMP replaced them at no charge). As most of mine are aging (~1-2yrs in most cases) they start to stick open. I've decided I just can't trust them even as racking only biners. Switched to DMM Chimera and couldn't be happier. If you want to stick with CAMP the Dyons are pretty awesome, much firmer gate action, I have had no issues with them even after beating a few up.

Lube works until they stick again. I marked the offenders and once I had to mark them multiple times, I sent them into camp and they replaced them no hassle. Haven’t had issues lately so seems I’ve weeded out the bad ones in my rack and more importantly, hopefully they have addressed the problem. I love the biners and am content with the customer service thus my reluctance  to find a replacement for now.

Well, page 2 and you guys are still belaboring this. I’ll chime in for the real mp cause of derailing this thread....

Why do any of you care about sticky gates?

Seems like shiny gear syndrome

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
