Red C4 vs Green MasterCam?

Wondering what people think of the Red (#1) C4 vs the Green (#6) MasterCam. I'm not the biggest fan of the Green PowerCam but love the Master Cams up to black (.75) - thinking of getting a green Mastercam to replace a red C4.
Any thoughts?

never really used one on a climb but i've messed around with them in that size in the gendarme a few months back, didnt really dig it in the bigger size, the head seemed to want to flop around more, anyway, just an observation...i'll stick to c4's for the bigger stuff...

They're both almost exactly the same size as far as I can tell. The Master Cam has about a 1/2 inch less in width. Maybe that matters? I just think the Master Cam is a little sexier. I carry both because I like to have the double sizes. But then again, I carry Tri-cams too...

C4 all the way, I have both but find the c4 to be much easier to place and has a smoother operation without the floppy head

Thanks, trying to decide if to add a second red C4 or a green Mastercam to the rack.

I love the smaller Mastercams but once you get past the red and black ones there are better cams out there. Forget the green one, get a #2 friend from WC.

I have both on my rack. I like the Camalots more because they're just so much more durable. After a few years of use the trigger action on all my Metollius cams is very sticky. Helps if you oil the springs occasionally, but the wires still get bent out of shape. Camalots still work smooth as butter, making them worth the extra $10 or however much more they are.

Edit: I have the Powercams not Mastercams, I was confusing the names.

I hate the #6 mastercam.
I love #00-#5 but for some reason the weight of the head on the #6 makes the thing very floppy.

When I would pull the trigger the head would often pull to one side.

Weird that the #5 works fine but I couldn't stand the larger size and sold mine.

For me, a #6 powercam or a #1 C4 is SO much easier to handle.

+1 on the floppy head, I would never encourage people to go for the green mastercam, i've had bad experiences where the stem will fold in half before the trigger begins to work, and i think the action is way smoother on the C4.

#1 C4 for sure. More range, less likely to get fixed.

I do like the black metolius as an in-between green/red camalot piece but otherwise stop carrying my metolius after the orange. On a very few occasions will rack the red tcu for specific placements or if I need everything I've got in that size range. Otherwise am fully on camalots from .5 up. Might do something differnt on specific Creek routes that fit specific friend sizes better than camalots, but in general...half and half c3/met tcus to fingers, camalots from 1" to big.

I like the C4 in that size much more, I have had the green Mastercam flop to the side when pulling the trigger to place the cam, pain in the butt. However, I have had a placement where the more narrow head was nice to have. I have a #1 C4 and a green Mastercam, and am currently looking to get a #1 C4 in that size as a third piece.

I prefer a red camalot instead.
Though I really like master cams to about size 4. Really like them.

I've experiencd the same thing with both my Master Cams #5 & #6. They both sit on my peg board instead of my rack. I wouldn't waste my money on them; #1 Camalots are where it's at in that size.

I have and carry both the c4 #1 and mastercam #6, i like them both the same. The "floppy #6" is actually a pro in my eyes it feels like it never wants to walk (even slug short). If you can apply the same pressure with 2 fingers it will not be a problem for you. The c4 has more range feels a tad less bomber but i would have no issue falling on it.

not a fan of the green mastercam, i've placed it blind while aiding and it was slightly skewed (went in at an angle) causing the cam to pop out when I weighted it (but it held long enough for me to step up and look at it and yell down to my belayer, "I'm prob going to need to reset this cam...")
C4 does not ever have such a problem.

Green metolius is an awesome size. It's right in between the red and gold C4. I personally dont consider a #1 C4 as a replacement for it.

That said, in the Mastercam version (which I own), I concur with the statements about it being too floppy. I REALLY wanted to like it so I could have a line up of Master Cams + Supercams (the grey supercam picks up right after the Green Master cam, which is why I think they made it), but it really is too floppy. I still use it from solid stances or for anchors, but a Powercam in that same size would be a better choice.

I've ended up with C3s in green and purple, Master Cams in 1-4, and C4s from .75 to 3. Those seem to be the sweet spots for each cam design.

Bigger C3s have hard triggers and seem to walk more than 4-cam MCs.
Tiny MCs have too little range, and only work in very parallel cracks.
Smaller C4s have massive head width that interferes with pods and irregular cracks.
Bigger MCs don't work as smoothly as C4s, and range is severely limited, between the single axle and the cam angle.

Not that any of these are bad cams - I chose Master Cams to fill out doubles in both big and small sizes.

I would recommend going with the BD#1. You really can't beat the quality of the C4s. I own a couple #1s and have a green powercam as well and the power cam tends to walk itself deeper than placed every time I place it. My buddy says the mastercam doesn't have this issue but I don't like using it bc the cam head is so heavy that its floppy on the stem. I wouldn't trade my small metolius gear for anything but anything bigger than the #4 metolius I definitely prefer BD. good luck!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
