New application for creating route guides.

When I try to open old data files to work on them, the program just closes. Is there a solution, or do I have to redo everything?

I've created about 10 different bouldering guides, with a total of over 200 Beta Creator photo topos, with this program and just published my first printed guidebook to South Carolina bouldering with it too. Beta Creator is so easy to use and everyone that sees the guidebook is totally impressed with the photo topos! Super big thanks for such a great tool that allows everyone to share more accurate beta to those in need:)

Shameless plug: If anyone is interested in purchasing the SC bouldering guidebook I mentioned, visit UpstateBouldering.blogspot.com for info...100% OF THE PROFITS FROM THE GUIDEBOOK ARE DONATED TO THE CAROLINA CLIMBERS COALITION FOR FUTURE SC BOULDERING ACCESS (which should be happening very soon)!!!

This application is really fantastic and helpful, I would definitely recommend it!

I think it still can be improved, here are my ideas:
- Let the possibility to increase text and climbing tools sizes. I almost always use 9 (which is the maximum size) and still find too small when looking at the whole picture!
- Add belay tools with higher numbers, there are a lot of climbing routes with 14 or 16 pitches in the Alps!

Thanks again!

Not really sure what would be going on there. Sorry. :/

I hope you've thanked the programmer in the form of an appropriately sized donation.

also...looking forward to seeing your guidebook!

That is awesome Nick. Thanks for all the hard work.

Hi

Is there a way to increase the line thickness more than 9 ?

On reduced picture (6cm x 8cm) (for bouder topo) the lines are not visible enough.

thanks
Claude

Are you using the new, online beta creator?

I'm curious if reducing the resolution (ppi, not the physical print dimensions of the image) will have any effect.

That photo is only 170x221 pixels, which shouldn't even be allowed on the site, at least in the route database. Centimeters, PPI, and anything other than pixels is irrelevant.

Please upload with a normal resolution image (at least 1000 pixels on each side is recommended).

While I agree that the pixel dimensions of the image are way too small (that was so obvious I didn't think it needed mentioning), PPI is definitely not irrelevant when it comes to media displayed on the web (for many reasons).

Great program. I'm currently using it to make a bouldering guide but it has some limitations for that type of application. Things that would really help would be:

A) Ability to make lines thicker (max is currently size "9")

B) A tool to add "arrow heads" to the end of lines (Currently drawing them by making two short lines, but it looks sloppy. A simple triangle/arrow would be ideal)

C) The numbers in the circles only go to 12. Many big wall routes around here are longer than 12 pitches, but also if the numbers went higher (going to 70 would probably be fine for a boulder guide application) then I wouldn't have to spend so much time in a second photo editing software to add the numbers at the base of each problem. This takes hours and would be a massive help if I could do it all in BetaCreator.

D) Finally, if the text tool had more options. Size, colour, font, etc. It would be ideal to be able to draw a simple rectangle with a 'dump fill' option. In the corner of every photo I also have to go into a secondary program to add a black rectangle then overlay it with the name of the boulder in white. This also takes hours when all is said and done.

If these changes were made, I wouldn't have to go back and forth between programs...it'd be a one stop shop and would really make it perfect for making bouldering guides.

PS thanks a million!

In that example I used Gimp, which is also free. However Inkscape (also free) is a better bet - much easier to use for simple functions if all you're doing is adding text and labels and etc.

If I remember well, zoom in/out is ctrl + (or =) and ctrl -
You can find all the keyboard shortcuts in the tutorial in the page you see when you open the program.

Hi, if that can be useful to anyone, I "fixed" the BetaCreator software to make it work in new browsers, locally: https://bohwaz.github.io/betacreator/

The source code is here: https://github.com/bohwaz/betacreator/

Thanks to Alma for this.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
