Brad Brandewie wrote: Ken, If I drink the Kool-Aid will I become the as cool as you and start telling people here to shut the fuck up? Brad, I didn't tell him to STFU because he had an opinion. I said it because he came into a forum that was meant to spread positive energy, and he started calling people tools. His posts should make it clear that he was here to troll and/or start trouble. Are you condoning that behavior because his position on Dean appears to be more in line with yours? And so was I trying to be too cool by suggesting that people leave their bitterness behind and start expressing their desire to preserve access, by demonstrating it in more productive and positive ways?

Ken, everyone's entitled to their opinion, including bitterness (in moderation). Someone, such as Dean, who has injected themselves into the limelight is eternally subject to public opinion -- be it positive or negative. Someone stating their personal opinion of that person or their actions should not be cornered or relegated for that. There is a big difference. As an observation of the situation, you are not currently spreading the positive energy!

Avery, I am the only one, in the last dozen posts, who has repeatedly suggested that we put the bitterness behind and focus on positive, productive behavior. Talk all you want, but it is right there, in black and white. You and Brad have spent your posts going after me. Find where I am being negative, and post it. The only way you are going to have anything good to say about me is if I adopt your anti-Dean sentiment. It's not going to happen, so why don't you get over it and say something positive.

Or if you dont like that you can relax and get back to work, i think your lunch break is over. I, for one, am here to debate topics. I don't fist-fight. --Marc

can we all debate a topic w/o going after someoe personally. it may not be possible! if someone states an opinion, can others accept it? it is good to listen (or read) what someone has to say, and then either accept, or add a point to the discussion w/o personal bashing. "you said this" / "no i defend this" / "your f**kd" / "no your f**ked" by the time i got to this thread, it has unraveled. oh well.... with the sun going down earlier, and less time to climb let us try to be friendly to eachother. if someone posts something you don't like, be nice. sometimes you mother says things you don't agree with, but you can still accept, and or treat her nice!

THIS IS SERIOUS. WHEN OTHER MEN DISLIKE EACH OTHER, SOMEONE IS INVARIABLY GOING TO GET HURT. THAT'S BECAUSE MEN HURT PEOPLE JUST AS A MATTER OF COURSE. MEN INFLICT PAIN. THAT'S WHAT THEY DO. YOU OBVIOUSLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND. PERHAPS YOU SHOULD TAKE UP KNITTING AND HANG UP YOUR 9.8MM ROPE, "QUICK DRAWS" AND LAMBS SKIN BELAYING GLOVES AND LEAVE THE REAL CLIMBING TO THE MEN. BURT

Killis Howard wrote:Makes me wonder whether this is really worth the time at all The purpose behind this thread was not lost on me, Killis. Nor do I think that it was lost on the participants in this discussion (for those that took the time to try to understand what is going on anyway). All you can do with these threads, it appears, is to try to to get your ideas out there and promote healthy debate. Many people participated in the healthy debate and some came to do nothing but inject off-track opinions and provoke others. I, for one, think the thread was a good idea. I would suggest ignoring any insinuations that you might be a Potter-worshiper. One can respect a high profile climber, and have a desire to voice that respect, without worshiping said climber. I think it's admirable. --Marc

I thought the thread was doomed from the second line on it: "Feel free to chime in if you have something positive to add-the hating's on the other page." That is not intended to promote debate. It was intended to avoid it. If I were to post a page that said "This is a page for loving ____" I'd draw the haters. If it were for hating ____ it would draw the defenders. Just ask "Sir Edmond Hillary," or rather the guy who used that name as an anon pseudonym last week.

After ascending some obscure tower, he would pull some warm beer out of his pack (which he didn't even know he had) and then sit back and soak in the beauty and serenity and openness of the desert. Then he would kill someone.
