So Jay if you had to use just three words to inspire a younger person it would be.. “Don’t stop vacuuming “ ?? |

When the Epstein stuff gets too much attention, he blows the dog whistle. |

Norm Larsonwrote: Wow, perfect venue also for my plein air painters group! That begs both climbing....and artwork. And, I'd suspect there's some damn birds to watch, and critters to ogle, and and ..... H. |

M Mwrote: Just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it didn't happen. The backlash was there pretty quickly. Just google a teensy wee bit, and the news stories from 20ish or more hours pop up. Including the really clunky, shambling, "election fraud", disavowal by Trump, with zero apology. Yet again ("who, me???"). Pretty sad to watch. No stone throwing at you, personally, here. But, FINALLY, yes, he went too far. Helen |

Don't know if this vid has been dropped here before, but it belongs in this thread. Enjoy! Mr. Gill, Did you ever climb with or meet John "The Verm" Sherman? |

Headed out to go back country skiing by myself today. it was 0F and windy at the house. I got about 4 miles down the road and realized I did not have my phone with me. In these temps it would not take long for things to go really south if anything went wrong. I turned around and went back for the phone. There was a bit of internal dialogue along the lines of can't afford to get hurt anyways so don't need the phone but in the end I did the right thing. -7f at the trailhead. I had to break in the skin track again. only took two runs. Had two semi close calls with trees... they come up quick in weird layery snow. I tried to talk my 78yr old ski buddy into going but he said it was too cold. Isa is off to Mexico with her daughter playing grandma so no one really knows or cares what I am up to... |

A great day for a favorite loop. The towers of the Wheeler Ridge have provided many days of adventurous climbing over the years. The speed of the descent keeps me from drifting away to memories of being up there. |

T Hockingwrote: I've known John for years. He is a pioneer of the modern version of bouldering and wrote the book Stone Crusade: A Historical Guide to Bouldering in America. He began climbing at age 15 about the time I was drifting away from serious bouldering, but years later we met in the secluded Granite Mountains of Wyoming to free solo on Lankins Dome. John repeated my Thimble climb in the 1990s and did much harder bouldering for quite a while. I had suggested the B-system of grading when there were very few serious boulderers and sport climbing did not exist in America. Verm updated the system with his V-scale, which was necessary because of the way rock climbing was changing. I am very fond of "Old Man Lightening", and try to keep in touch. He currently lives in KY and may be getting married. He promises to return to the rock when he is capable, but not Midnight Lightening. |

Nick Goldsmithwrote: Nick. Your post is calling to mind the constant decision-making involved in following your spirit. Turning around at the four mile mark, I know that’s frustrating. Glad you weighed it all out so you could live to see another day. And you’re important here. With Isa gone how would we ever know? Thank you for taking the time to share your ongoing pictures and journeys. i’m constantly reviewing and double checking what I need before I head out – – especially diabetic supplies, some form of sugar. Like Phylp I have an InReach, but unlike Phylp I have forgotten how to use it. Mine is tiny and relies upon communication with my cell phone – – it would be helpful to relearn. We have signs at every trail entrance. “don’t die today”. I love exploring canyons and buttresses, chasing after new flowers and finding private perches. We don’t have nearly your level of cold, but we do get mind blowing heat. There have been two rattlesnakes out already this week so there’s that. And it’s all good. I’m in a new phase of my life where I’m engaging with a world of incredible discovery and elevation (in the tech world) – – and freedom from all that when I drive through the West entrance of Joshua Tree and towards 800,000 pure acres of desert, most of which has no cell service and, where I go, usually no people. |
