Pure fun.

What route is that Norm? Does indeed look like "pure fun"--also familiar, but I'm not IDing it.
Hope you are recovering well and do so speedily.

I consider the Solo skiing including the xc skiing to be the most dangerous shit I do. I know I shouldn't do it alone but that's kinda who I am..

Edit:  Al, can’t remember the route name but it is on Shuteye Ridge

Looks like Runnel Lust at Shuteye.

Skinned for turns after work.. it's pretty deep. This is why I probably shouldn't do this alone...

Took me about 10 minutes to get back on my feet... Too soft and deep. It was a pretty good face plant..   ended up face down the hill completely buried with skis up the hill.. once I got rolled over and could breath I figured it was worth a picture..

Showed this post to my friend and stated you’re a professional photographer. She said the last thing you’d do is to take a picture for prosperity, over attempting to extract yourself first.

Welcome to lebogreg and JW ….. it’s always nice to have more seniors adding to this group.

Great news Jan! Backcountry Trout are shaking in thier boots right now.

Question for Daniel….. is that the BP on the summit of Bear Creek Spire?

Question for Nick.  Did you ever put an air filter on Bessie? Old trucks rule!

Question for you Idaho folks.  How is the City in May?  My racing schedule has me working a bunch in June so I won’t be able to visit in June.

And Lastly a Q for Brad.    Looking forward to visiting the Pinnacles.    Is Monterey a good location to use for weather?

Lori- I hope you’re feeling better.

It's probably on the cool side daytimes, but shit, one could climb there now, based on temps in the 40s.

It's usually not nonstop PNW style rain for days on end there, ever. And the rock isn't sandstone. It's more a matter of camping, then climbing. It can be miserable, if you're trying to get by tenting when it's so windy a jet boil wont light, or, in fall/winter, it's cold and dark for many hours.

May, you'll be getting the longer days, it will be as green as it ever gets, some stuff will be blooming, and there will be lots of people around. I don't remember if you have your own rig to sleep in, but if you do, and have a climbing partner, it should be plenty good enough. Book camping as soon as you can, though, especially if you need a weekend. Weekdays should still be okay. They've messed around with campsites, added some, dropped some, so check them on a map, if there's a spot you like. Might be numbered differently. And a few new ones are just total suck. A parking lot. Really???

Anyway, dunno when I'll be there this year. Climbing partner wants to get a new knee, but, well.....not sure they'll let him.

In other news, someone just pulled the newest Idaho record trout (?) out. Snake river, iirc. Jusssst sayin....

Edit to add, 20 pound rainbow. Definitely not one for the beautiful trout thread, lol!

On that City of Rocks topic. Is there a meetup this year in June? Which week? Was trying to talk some friends into heading out there.

Same here, Buck! You still owe me the second pitch of Easy Keyhole, IIRC. I will lead P1
I'm thinking of making my goal for this year to be leading at least 5 Gunks 5.5s. Stretch goal will be 10 of them.
I will also try to improve over my last year's personal best max number of outdoor pitches.

Awesome post! Awesome photo!!!

I've known Nick for over two decades.  I believe that's the photo Nick would have taken either: right before he knew it was really the "end," or right before he knew he could work his way out.

So glad it was the latter and not the former.

ps. Daniel Shively's photos are totally awesome  (as are Nick's)

What’s the matter Nick, you couldn’t chop a hole in the ice, so you buried yourself in the snow.

Cannae wait!!!

That's one of my main motivations (along with doing Henderson Ridge with you and Bill!) that keeps me dragging my butt to the indoor gym at least once a week!

And great goals!  You can easily do those leads next summer!  Hopefully I'll be able to belay you on some of them and I'll set a goal of leading five Gunks 5.6's!  We can keep each other honest!

Climb On!

Thank you ed esmond and everyone else who has appreciated my photos. I’m thankful for all of my adventures and want to share my images and memories to spread the stoke and love for wild places. I truly enjoy seeing and reading about all of the experiences and adventures from everyone who contributes here too. Climbing is fun!

I love all the photos from James, Daniel etc but this one is a special treasure!

Out climbing for a couple days. Just a quick trip.  Did not take any photos yesterday at beautiful Alabama Hills. Will try to take at least one photo today and post when I get back.

Beautiful photos Norm! Yeah, when those mountains are right there, we just have to climb them.

Out for a ski in the “heat” of the day in order to get my sun exposure. Wonderful conditions, we are having a real winter this year.
