Rained out of Moab…Sightseeing Options??

Got rained out of indian creek this week and I have a couple days to hang around (gotta be in Vegas on Sunday).

Honestly the highlights of this trip have been hiking thru Canyonlands and Arches NP. Thought about detouring to Monument Valley and skateboarding down the Forrest Gump road- I’m pretty open to any shenanigans and things to see between Moab and Vegas. Any suggestions? Needs to be somewhat accessible by a Honda Fit with shot suspension (it’s practically 3” off the ground at this point and muddy roads have been uhhh…interesting to get through). Thanks!

Are you opposed to sticking around Moab? Both Polka Dot Man and the kivas and accompanying rock art in Hidden Valley are cool.

Edge of the Cedars museum in Blanding is very cool if you’re down that way and into arch sites.

If the clouds clear, you can drive all the way to the summit of abajo peak, that gives you 360 degree views of the 4 corners region.

Moki Dugway, needles overlook, bluff river walk.

Head down to the Needles for some hiking. Paved road all the way. Campsites with warm toilets.

Hiking through Canyonland's Needles district rocks, would definitely recommend it as well

Hiked thru the Chesler Park/Joint Trail loop at Canyonlands and it was def one of my favorite national park trails! So breathtaking- I would definitely return to this NP.

But I thought you weren’t supposed to hike thru canyons during rains because of the flash flood risk? At least the juniper tree wedged 15’ above my head in a slot canyon indicated as such.

But yes, thank you for the suggestions! Got to see some petroglyphs the first time this week…I didn’t realize drawing massive dicks has been a longstanding human pastime and I was greatly entertained (I have the humor of a 12 year old).

EDIT: Does anyone with a skateboard wanna cruise the Moab Canyon Pathway tomorrow? You’ll have to deal with the embarrassment of riding with me on a pink Nickelboard, but we can smoke whatever spliffs I have left and look even lamer. DM me.

It is the storm intensity that matters. Late fall storms are all day storms which while they may dump 1" of water over the day making for wet trails, they do not have the intensity to cause flash floods. That is a generality.  Some of the Needles hikes spend a fair amount of time on the slick rock.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
