I wanted to paste this TR in here, but it's too long. So read if hear: https://andykirkpatrick.substack.com/p/down-punching-a-trip-report-for-the |

Really enjoyed this piece, Andy. |

Yeah, that was a good read. That sounds like some serious suffering. Out of curiosity, how much did you weigh before and after that month in Yosemite? (In stones is fine… I’ll get Saint Google to translate.) |

Daniel Joderwrote: I'd say I was 15kg lighter, or 2.3 stone, but I seem to put on weight fast, and lose it equally quickly. Twice I've been on major expeditions where I got as fat as I could before I went (I was technically obese), but came back thin (ish), but healthier than others who went away in top (skinny) condition, who were just a bag of bones. This is good for expeditions, but not so good for A4 climbing or matchstick crimps. Some trips are about long-term survival and performance, while others are primarily focused on performance. I'd say my ideal bodyweight for what I do is between 90 and 95kg, which is probably double the average! |

Dang, that’s quite a weight loss, but totally believable given the conditions and the effort… and lack of food. Thanks. |

As always, you’ve a gift for the written word. Great piece, andy. I may have mentioned “well he’s nuckin futs” to TE when he told me it was you up there… :) |
