Stoney Point Wet Rock Warning

Parking at some climbing areas has some element of danger.  Break-ins are one hazard but having your vehicle hit by another car is a hazard few areas have.  Somebody is gonna get killed by a drunk or distracted driver at Stony Point or Malibu Creek someday.

I saw it happen live once in broad daylight! I was standing on top of Boulder 1.

Chris- was that the flaming Camaro that went down the embankment?

Guy - no! That would've been a sight to see.

Yes….

And all cleaned up…..

Thanks to the efforts of “Beautify Chatsworth”….

I do have issues with the graffiti “paint over” they did- but they had good intentions but poor execution.
Beware many problems now have fresh, thick brown paint with dirt tossed over it! Not happy about that at all.
Bring a big nylon brush.

I checked Carousel Rock, which was an absolute travesty of graffiti and IMHO they did a good job on the west side, meaning the problems are still climbable and rough - I don't think that was a paint over. It's a work in progress; the north and east sides are still literally lacquered over and unclimbable.

Well it looks like winter has officially arrived. So once again I crank up the semi-annual Stoney Point rain report.

In short- YES it rained hard last night and it’s still raining now.

Stay tuned for updates

11-25-25.

I went and checked the conditions yesterday….
It didn’t pass the dry test.

Thanks

12-3-25.

It’s dry now.

The sunny cold weather makes for tacky sandstone.

Enjoy

Hi Daniel- I will be making my Tuesday visit later today and will take a look for you.

The scary “atmospheric river” is rapidly approaching. I don’t remember when it went from “Rain Front” to “atmospheric river” but “they” want you stressed out about it for some reason.
Stoney needs the rain, we need the rain.

Directions to No Jack City…..  at 150th and East Ave Q you leave the pavement- I drove my Corolla up close to the base, you can see a plethora of formations and boulders.

One formation, down low on hillside, has the classic “Hamed on Boo” 5:12  Leventhal and Oliphant     Mid 90’s

Merry Christmas to all

Stay dry, stay tuned

I can possibly replace it for free if Guy doesn't have any luck.

Hi all…. Yes it is raining right now.

Thanks for not climbing on wet sandstone.

It will dry out- someday.
