I’ve been taking 5,000 IU of D3 for years, I take it (and a bunch of other stuff) with breakfast.  Make sure to take a vitamin K supplement as well as it helps to keep calcium out of your arteries.  Magnesium is also supposed to be important to take along with it.

N=1 but I have had only two minor colds in the last six years.  Before I started taking D3 maybe 25 years ago I got sick every fall when the days got short.

Ward, I have to agree with you here.  I also take D, K and Magnesium and while I feel myself getting exposed and fighting off sickness, I haven't really been sick in quite a while.  I have asthma and I know I was completely exposed to covid last summer but I never had symptoms except it aggravated my asthma.  My asthma is mostly respiratory disease aggravated so it is easy to tell when I get exposed.

Hey Ward, forget about that Arizona project. This looks like a far better objective. 😊

Plus, skiing in the winter. Looks cool!

Argh, I hope global warming doesn’t melt all the slopes before I can retire

Apologies for the political post, but the Kirk murder feels like a very big deal.

NR’s editor piece today appropriately decried political violence, but doesn’t really address much of the reasons for the increase in recent years. Then their headline follows with the above. Yesterday, the President said left wing violence must stop.

They haven’t even found the culprit (though they did find the gun), let alone establish a motive.

Want to stop the polarization in politics? Stop being polarizing.

Melissa Hortman from Minnesota was brutally murdered by a MAGA just a few months back, I didn't hear much from the right about how wrong it was, I didn't see flags being ordered to fly at half mast around the country. Go figure that.

This specific thread has a higher interest in and tolerance of political discussions, but we still receive complaints about most political posts here from those who view it as an unwelcome distraction. Since online communication tends to polarize, and because we are currently facing a fresh flash point for political hostility, let's not make MP yet another place for the same emotionally charged reactions that are echoing through social media platforms. Speaking in person or over the phone is a better way to discuss recent current events.

Thanks mods! You've got a tough job.

FWIW? I think many of us do consider this thread to be an in person, face to face, long standing chit chat with friends, and that's part of why it stays relatively civilized, methinks.

It is a climbing forum.

And climbing is more fun, right?

I don't understand why people are complaining to you (Moderators) about political posts on this thread. People who don't like political posts can (and do) say so here. If the political posts continue despite their objections, they're free to leave. (The one exception I'd make is for Lori, since this is really her thread. If she wants these discussions to stop, then they should.)

Of course we should keep it civil.

Yes, yes it is. Thanks for the reality check.

This thread has managed 38 versions without the need for moderators to step in. Don't start now. We are adults and have for the most part managed to discuss all manner of topics without things going completely off the rails.

On Aug 8th, 2025 a man who'd been radicalized by anti-vax conspiracy theories targeted public health workers and fired over 500 rounds at CDC headquarters in Atlanta Georgia. Police officer David Rose, a marine veteran who served in Afghanistan was killed responding to the attack. Donald Trump not only didn't order flags to half mast, he has never even mentioned the incident.

As divided as our nation is now, thanks to both corrupt political parties' agendas and the biased medias propaganda that supports them, our broken governments flag should constantly fly at half-staff.

Only this non-partisan, independent, critical thinking taxpayers opinion.

And that's all I have to say about that.
