I’m planning my first trip to the Winds this summer. How do conditions look so far this year? I’m deciding when to plan the time in my schedule - recommendations between July vs August? Possible climbs include shark’s nose, Pingora, Wolf’s Head. Thanks!

The later the season, the fewer the bugs!!! Of course, especially once you get later into August, you will be dealing with shorter days, but still should be fine. If I'm remembering correctly, the best access to Shark's Nose is from the 'other side' ( north?), while Pingora and Wolf's Head are usually accessed from the Lonesome Lake side.

If I remember correctly, friends I was with approached Shark's Nose from the cirque side and roped up on the north side of the ridge. Twas cold they said.

Should have probably clarified we wouldn’t do all three! I don’t think my schedule or my partner’s will allow us to do all three in one trip. Probably either sharks head and maybe something else, OR Pingora and wolfs head.

Sharks nose obviously has more than one route. The N & NW is generally approached from the Cirque. The SW from Shadow lake side. July is very very buggy. August is super crowded. Your choice, bugs are annoying but so are crowds of people.

To piggyback on this topic--is going the week of June 16 crazy? Is it buried in snow still?

How is early July looking this year with snow?
