The Mini Moonboard

This may not be the best place to ask this… but since I’m here, and there are a fair amount of MB’ers here.. how is everyone using the app? I find it sort of odd.. so if I do a new problem in a session i record that, and if it’s a flash or the number of attempts. That makes sense.. then if I do that problem again on another day, and get it first try, i record that as a “flash”? seems sort of weird, but if I look under “more” in the problems details, I will see my history for that problem, and see that it took me 3 tries on my first time sending it, and a flash or whatever on any subsequent repeats.. i find it odd, but workable.. a “repeat” option would make more sense.. next- if I try a problem a few times, don’t get it and log it as a “project” and note the number tries, the next time I select that problem, it shows the number of attempts in the last session. So maybe I project it 3 days, and then walk in on another day and do it first try. I record that as a “flash”? Also, then if I look under “more” on problem details, it shows my project days, and my send day, but the number of attempts on each project day aren’t listed.. so no way to know if I tried it once and marked it project so I’d remember to come back, or if I spent an hour just ruthlessly beating every move in to submission over a couple dozen attempts.. Then- if I select a problem I’ve done before, it always shows my last sessions data- so even if a problem took many tries over many days, if I then repeat it and get it first try, when I load it up next time it shows that my last time on it i “flashed” it (on the problem page) as stated above i can check “more” and see my history.. Lastly, there doesn’t seem to be a way so see on the logbook how many individual problems I’ve completed, as it’s tallying total climbs including repeats in the count chart.. leaving me to have to use the route filter and choose “my ascents” to know how many problems I’ve done..

Quinn Hatfield wrote: This missing "repeat" option is pretty much the only real nitpick I have of the app. Could also be solved by not asking for the flash/redpoint option on repeat logs at all. It's still funny to see people log climbs as flashed, when the comment states it took 10 sessions... Either because they repeated the climb later on, or because they did it first try that day. |

I just put in a large list of suggestions for the app after collecting community feedback on IG. The mini community now has a discord channel as well where I imagine most these discussions will take place. A big complaint was around logging repeats. |

I only log the first time I complete a problem. The app really doesn’t seem like it’s set up for anything more than that, and I’m not sure why I would. Maybe if I felt like the community absolutely needed to read a comment about how I felt on the afternoon of my 37th repeat? No one needs to read about that. The app is fine for just ticking off routes, but not set up for tracking training. |
|
lol you don’t have to comment when you send. Most ticks don’t supply comments. They are reworking the logbook on the app right now. Hopefully it will be better for logging repeats soon enough. I believe currently when you log a repeat it shows up as a zero star send on the app. IMHO it’s nice to be able to see volume in the app despite the naysayers here. Pencil and paper, excel, etc all work as well. |

Phil Sakievich wrote: I know, and I usually don’t. It’s more a reaction to some people who do and basically spam the comments on easier problems. It hijacks the community comments and turns them into a personal training log. To bring it back to the mini, I think the smaller user base makes it more apparent when one person posts dozens of comments about themselves that don’t say anything about the problem. I could see an update being useful for a lot of people though, the app is due for it. |

I sell the steel frames for $990 plus shipping that adjust from 20 to 40 degrees in 1 degree increments at bluesmanboards.com you build the wood components with complete instructions under assembly. |

Has anyone found a good supplier of stainless steel M10 bolts for the moonboard? I am looking for both the regular socket type bolts as well as the tapered bolts for the wood hold sets. It is a bit of a morasse trying to find the number and length of M10 bolts one needs.... |

Does moon not sell them? Why do you need stainless anyways? |

Moon sells them, but they are expensive. Just wondering if there are any US companies where they can be ordered quickly. I have found that after the boards has been up for awhile, and particularly when the sets don't change, stainless makes it much easier to take down and replace holds when I switch out an entire board. |

I want to give Victor and Bluesmanboards a big shout out for a fantastic product. Below is a pic of my new Mini Moonboard with the 2025 hold set, bluesmanboards frame, and the Organic Climbing Home Wall Base Pad, which fits perfectly between the legs of the Bluesman frame. |
