Look closely and you'll see the tail of a rattlesnake as it slithers under some haul bags left at the base of the fixed lines to Sickle Ledge. I was able to inform the climbers of the reptile hiding under their bags.  This is a general alert to the presence of rattlesnakes along the base of El Cap. Photo date: 2 June 2025.

Yeah, a friend of mine was bitten on either Dolt or El Cap Tower in the late 80's or early  90's, while guiding the Nose. Fortunately it was a non-venomous bite. He finished the job.

I had a German female client investigate a coiled and rattling one on the Ranger Rock descent. Clueless. She backed away safely after being informed of the danger.

Your rattle snake looks to be of good size.

one time I was belaying p1 of the zodiac and a member of the Japanese team that was behind us gestured to me that there was a rattlesnake close to me in the talus. It started rattling and came out of the talus, but I couldn’t move that much bc belaying. Without a word, one of the members of the Japanese team came up with a stick, scooped up the rattler, and lacrosse threw the snake like 50’ down the talus hill below us. So sick

I have a 9 rattle from a rattle snake. At crowded crags it is great. A few quick shakes, followed by "I think there is rattlesnake near by" and it disperses the riffraff.

A buddy reported seeing one on his way up east ledges early this week, so they’re basically working the classic ambush, hit you from behind at the start and hit you again on top when you’ve forgotten about them. Nice.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
