Where should we climb outdoors for the first time?

My friend and I have been climbing for 1.5 years at Sacramento Pipeworks and we are about to get lead certified. Where do you recommend we go for our first outdoor experience with easier single pitch sport climbing routes or maybe even top rope options? Is the Auburn Quarry a good spot for a beginner?

Auburn Quarry and Cosumnes River Gorge are the tried and true Sacramento region starter crags. Both have some TR options, Auburn has sport leading as well. CRG is better you're more trad motivated in the long term.

Even easier is bouldering at Deer Creek Park in Rocklin. My personal first "crag!"

Thanks, Andrew. I’m looking forward to checking out both Auburn & Cosumnes.

Fun House at Bowman. Yes, the road is open.

If you’ve never climbed outside you will learn a lot if you can go out with Lover’s Leap Guides. Start strong and learn to safely climb outside. There is a lot to learn and you’ll have a great time.
