Time to replace my Cilogear 30L Worksack
|
I've had a Cilogear 30L worksack for about 12 years and it's finally due for replacement. Are there any similar packs I should consider, or should I just try to get another worksack? I loved the versatility of it and the durability and the size. Perfect for everything I needed and I used most of it's features. |

Why change if it does everything you want from it? Are you looking for any particular areas for improvement? |
|
Yeah, sounds like a no brainer. |

Tufa Mochilla 33 |

Arc’teryx Alpha FL 30 |

Mostly because of lack of availability of cilogear packs. Nothing to improve, except availability. |

I tried Blue Ice, Mountain Hardware, Alpha SL and AR (AR was close but didn’t fit right and not available) and at the price of Cilo maybe it’s worth hitting up John at Alpine Luddites ? (Edit, wow those are not cheap even in a world of crazy expensive) maybe Samaya packs? |

https://the-high-route.com/first-look-arcteryxs-alpha-sl-pack/ The new Arc’teryx Alpha SL could fit the bill? Set to be released in May! |

Going from Cilogear to BD will most likely be a disappointment durability-wise. Alpine Luddites is probably a great option. Also check out Alpinist Lab, they both use Ultra fabric to my knowledge, and I've heard Alpine Luddites packs are extremely durable. |

Highly recommend the Mountain Equipment Tupilak 30+ |

If you are stoked with the cilo, why not get another? The MOB is in stock and @ $400, if it last you another 12y, that is like $33/year for usage... |

IMO, Cilo was a revolutionary pack 15 years ago but now they are just another company in a crowded and competitive market. I'm currently carrying a Raide Research pack for winter ski touring and into the spring volcano season. There's a good chance I'll continue to carry it through the summer instead of my Mystery Ranch Sceptor pack. I had a Cilo pack a long time ago and loved the pack body but the suspension did not fit my body very well. The MR pack is close to being a simple tube but with much better load carrying capabilities. |

I bought a cilogear pack in 2011. I was easily the worst pack I have owned since the 1980s and wore out in under a year. Buy a cheaper mass produced pack, you can get several for the same price if you buy on sale. I like the mutant 38. That said if you like the cilogear pack, buy another. EDIT: I see cilogear packs are much cheaper than they used to be. Still I hated mine. |
