This Past Weekend: Busiest Ever in RR ???
|
Evidence to consider that 22 Mar was busiest day ever ... 1) Way (!!!) more cars than I've ever seen stacked up at the gate on Sat AM ... 2) People literally running from their car upon arriving at the parking lot ... 3) Conga line coming down BO descent ... 4) Headlamps all over the place relatively late after sunset, some VERY high up still ... I don't blame anyone and 100% not criticizing, wx was amazing, people were a bit stir-crazy with last couple weekends being kinda wet, it's starting to get hot, etc. - i should know, I was out there ... I'm hopeful everyone played nice :) Just thought I'd poke the bear and see what other people thought, but it sure was a great weekend! |
|
Weird. I was thinking it was one of the most dead weekends I'd seen it out here, figuring we were ahead of the usual spring crowds. |
|
I went to a limestone crag that has been mobbed all winter and only had to share it with one party. You guys keep doing RR! |

It was packed on Unimpeachable Groping, Ginger Cracks, and Blade Runner on 3/22 - I'm not surprised though. Based on the route log for UG, it appears the descent/raps took quite a bit of time for parties. Sunday 3/23, my partner and I went to a shady spot and didn't have a single party on the two routes we did. |

Had the uhh pleasure of being stuck behind a party of 4 on the raps who held up 3 parties of 2 above them (including me and my partner) while they seemed to be figuring out how to rap. Ended up having to hike out in the dark because it took so long. Good times. |

RR seems like it can be luck of the draw on crowds since you have to hike so far to even know if the climb you want to do is busy. We got lucky doing Myster Z and Armatron on 3/22. Started Myster Z around 9AM, and we were able to go at our own pace all day with no one in front of us and no one nipping at our heels. |

Rprops wrote: Haha super pro play is the move. We ended up helping them pull their ropes through and tossing them down every time to speed it up. Didn't make much difference, still found myself in hanging belays waiting and waiting for the next rap station to clear. Really nice dude I spoke to who was part of the group, it just wasn't a great time to be faffing around setting up rappels and figuring out how to get down. |

3/26 was likely the busiest day for our guide service, ever. 10 guide bookings. Typically a busy day is 4-5 bookings. Several days in the last 2 weeks have exceeded 5 bookings, but 3/22 only had 4 bookings. |
|
Interesting. I was at jtree last week and it was dead as a door nail. |

Sounds like the BLM should consider increasing their permits so other guides can legally participate in satisfying the demand. |

UG and Ginger Cracks are often busy because: - Ginger Cracks is one of the few moderately sized 5.9s (it’s kind of the missing grade at RR compared to the amount of larger climbs at other grades) - UG has lots of bolts - They’re the only two climbs up in that area that are well known. And since the hike is so long, people tend to stick it out once they get there. Power Failure and Cayenne Corners are nice, albeit harder, alternatives for those going up there.
