tommy caldwell moves to california?

just heard the news-- any idea what happened-- work? life? divorce? Realization that california has much better climbing than colorado? 

He's projecting "Empath" which is located in Lake Tahoe.

I heard rumor around South Lake Tahoe last fall that Tommy had moved there. That recent Empath video seems to confirm. Kind of surprising - it seemed to me that Tommy was an Estes Park lifer. Curious as to why that change.

I'd assume Empath has become a project because he moved to Tahoe, not the other way around.

He had a post on his socials about it and he's talked about it in some podcasts over the past few months:

Lots of close friends living out there, access to ski resorts, summers on the lake, proximity to Yosemite and other climbing, etc.

So, basically, an acknowledgement that California is better.

Yeah, I'm sure he didn't move to CA solely to project a route but that link I shared is the most recent thing I've seen from him. 

Also at the risk of thread drift: as a CA resident for ~6 years now who went to college in CO previously, in my opinion...CO is better.

To me that's a tough one.

I’m a Colorado resident but lived for two years in California. It sucked compared to here. Colorado is desperately trying to become another California though :(

Yea it’s the new one because that is where Tommy moved to.  Wherever Tommy moves, that place inevitably becomes the new alpha male stronghold. It is that simple

The California vs. Colorado debate is always funny. They are two of the few places I'd want to live. They have their pros and cons. 

Tommy Caldwell doesn't pull himself up, he pushes the mountain down. 

Death had a near Tommy Caldwell experience once. 

Tommy Caldwell makes onions cry. 

Tommy Caldwell has a grizzly bear rug in his room. The bear isn't dead, it's just too afraid to leave. 

California sucks, don't try it. 

Probably has extended family that are getting old and he's moving so that they can all be closer.
