Curious about fixing to P4. Book says you need 3 ropes to the ground.. does not give a length. There are 3 anchors in topo. We do not want to carry 3 ropes.. does anyone know the length? Will an 80m + 65m haul line make it to the ground? Any other info helpful… Thanks!

Don't exactly remember, but if your fixing then blasting. How about drop the 3rd line!

An option for sure.. but don’t love the idea of leaving a rope on the ground for 5+ days…really just trying to figure out the length & can bring appropriate cord.

It is 3 ropes to the top of pitch 4.  We fixed the 3 lines and used an old retired lead rope for the 3rd. When we blasted we coiled it and then dropped it. When some hiker walked by we asked them to put it behind a big boulder near the base and we got it back after we got down. Such a sweet route!

A SuperTopo comment says 3 50s reach. You could probably shenanigans the ~15' extra if needed.

I missed the part about having an 80 m lead line and 65 m haul line.  I bet that would probably reach but you'll have to tie them together and then fix them to the anchors mid rope on the way down. When we did it we had all 60 m ropes and there was a fair bit of extra rope.

Any reason you can’t come up with a 70m haul line? Knot passing should be basic if you are competent for a wall like Mescalito, and the extra length may end up being handy for lowering the bag out after tying it in short.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
