It's wet in Red Rock(s)

Sounds good, thanks for rec and input! |

Another SLC climber here, I was hoping to be in RR Mon-Thur of next week but looking at the forecast I'm a bit worried. Am I fucked? |
|
Rained hard yesterday and is snowing in the park today. Definitely looking like a limestone weekend for anyone in town. |

With the wetness posts above, and if the rain odds stick for this upcoming Thursday, is it safe to assume that Kraft will be a no go on Friday? |

Joao Paulo Blum wrote: You are correct. There will, of course, still be people out for a variety of reasons but it's going to be raining/overcast all week and rain the day before will definitely have all of Kraft wet. For example on how long things can stay wet here, the last time it rained was this past Thursday and when I went to check out Red Springs yesterday afternoon the sand at the base was still wet. |

Is it just me, or is it fairly ridiculous that people were climbing Man's Best Friend at Sandstone Quarry this morning? |

Booked a trip a couple months ago with the hope of climbing in red rocks this weekend 15th & 16th. Looks like there was probably rain the last couple of days in the canyon, but not 100% sure what the situation is on the ground. Are walls, boulders off limit today? If so, is there anywhere close by that has climbable rock? Staying at Red Rock casino resort. Worst case we'll do some scouting for the next trip, but we've got our gear and would love to use it. |

Thank you! Well check it out. |

There is a TON of great limestone within a 15 minute drive of your hotel - Lone Mountain, Gun Club, Crustacean, Rodeo, etc...and more if you want to drive a bit. Swing by Desert Rock Sports and pick up the Limestone guide book, and you're all set. |

Flying in on the 19th. - lets say it doesn't rain for academic purposes. would the 19th 20th be okay? i have read that a hand full of solid dry days and if the ground is nice and sandy (zero signs of moisture) then its okay to climb. is that the rule of thumb? please keep the rain posted for me so i can adjust my plans/approaches |
|
Yeah you'll be good by the 19th for sure, given the current forecast. |

EMFR I wrote: This. There's even city parks with good trad and sport lines in them. If you have specific lines you'd like more info on, PM me and I'm happy to provide a page or two from the guidebook so people don't climb on what they shouldnt. |

All the tools are available to you. Here is a summary of the last storm, and the link so you can look it up yourself: How to read that graphic? Somewhere between 0.25"-1" fell in many popular climbing areas. We've needed the rain. Unfortunate it's happened 2 weekends in a row. |

Took the gear for a walk today but still looks too wet to climb, even south/west facing walls in Calico Basin. There were groups out, mostly on riding hood, cowlick, and other more beginner friendly walls. There was a party top roping “The Fox” which I get the temptation but thought more experienced climbers would be more careful/considerate. |

Rained again today. |

Sources are reporting rain yesterday at RR and it looks like it might get some today: And might even get a tiny bit tomorrow: Then Friday and Saturday will be sunny. Interested in locals opinions. I’d love to climb in BVC on Sunday, but won’t even consider it if people’s experience is that it won’t be good to go. |
|
A friend out there confirmed rain today. I'm personally 100% not going to RR this weekend because of the rain. Sun might be okay, but why risk it for a long drive? If i had Mon-Tue off, that might be long enough post-rain to risk driving out there. I'm sure there will be yuppies out there on the sandstone. |
|
Rained pretty solid the last two days. Might to rain again tomorrow. |
