What's happening with Acopa?

Well, just got a text:

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, Acopa will transition to make-to-order production, pausing regular services.

We will conduct a final production batch of outstanding orders, with a waiting period of 3 weeks. Your order is included. We'll just need your confirmation to proceed.”

“You have 24 hours to respond. If we don’t hear from you by then, we’ll proceed with production as our factory closes on the 6th. After this period, no changes, returns, or refunds will be possible.

Thank you for your understanding and support. We look forward to serving you again!”

Bummer

Well shoot there it is. Bummer they couldn't make it work.

Got some custom JB's, about six weeks ago. They were a little slow, but worth the wait.

If anyone is jonesing, I have a mint pair of 10.5 JB's I've climbed in maybe 3 times that just didn't jibe with me. Just been too lazy to post it up.

I don't know how much you paid or these are worth but I'll pay $100 shipped. If that sounds good message me.

The text Acopa sent out did mention a transition to made to order shoes, rather than production runs. Does that mean the company is going out or is that truly a manufacturing change?

Seems like a change to just a very small operation. Probably 1-3 person team or something. It makes sense, they never advertised as much as I thought they should to get any real amount of sales going.

Also I got my Gamas in finally and I really really like them. I hope they hold up and don't delaminate but I doubt it.

That is a lowball consider they retail for 199 and you're on the wrong coast, but I appreciate the effort.

Not anymore.  $129 is the new retail Acopa JB.  I just bought a pair. Hoping with their new business model they ship within a few weeks.

Understandable, no worries. If you change your mind I'm here.

Good info! My bad then.

That might be a temporary price as they sell through stock and sort out their new systems.   I’m hoping that they are still in it when I need another pair.  It reads like they intend to be in one way or another.

Since Bachar passed on its been touch and go. But when John was there they ran a tight ship, when there was a problem with my wife's JBs he took same day action. He was and is 'The Legend' and a good man. I saw John once in Vons (Bishop) and asked, How do I get an Acopa hat ? we agreed 'more boldering' !  Bob Crawford.  Respectfully yours...

Is anyone else still waiting for their Games to ship from the sale in early December? As expected, all of my emails have been ignored.

My order was confirmed on 12/16. I placed my order before the sale went live (woe is me). Haven't heard anything. I was expecting it to take a while though so I'm just bein' patient

I ordered some 12/23 and received shipping info on 12/25. It took about 10 days to show up after that.

I also don’t get responses to my emails for my outstanding issues. I did get two phone calls over the course of two months but that’s it

Maybe someone in Texas can compile all of our issues and walk into their facility for us lol

It is good to see all the interest in Acopa shoes, and at the same time hard to see signs of decline from a company that has been supplying outstanding shoes for years to us north-of-the-border members of the climbing community. I had no trouble ordering a pair of Aztecs when the sale was announced in December. Delivery time normal. No response yet to inquiries about future availability of size 9.5 Merlins. I risk delusional optimism daily and hope that the company solves the delaminating issue (generally slight and, as Ross said, at the tip of the shoe and which I found to be mostly cosmetic) and soon returns to their former level of high quality customer service. I’ve used Barge cement, a razor blade, and glove leather to “optimize” my Acopas and keep my feet happy. A small price to pay for shoes that have always been a pleasure to climb in.

I never got any answers for when my shoes would ship, but I got an unprompted refund. I was excited for the sale on the Gamas but I guess I'll get one of my pairs of shoes resoled instead

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
