As an OG climber, I have a special place in my heart for Cliffhanger. It's hilarious and I will always have it in my quiver of movies to repeat. Hell, it was written by John Long, so that's awesome as well, and at least it doesn't say, "based on true events." Vertical Limit was somewhat entertaining to pick apart, no doubt, but not my favorite and can't compare to Stalone. Now, this new take on climbing shit, the Fall, is easily the most enjoyable for laugh-out-loud climbing misses. I highly recommend watching it with climbing friends simply to pick it apart.
In times like these, I sincerely miss the show, Mystery Science Theatre 3000. The movie screams to be mocked! I found myself wondering if any other diehard climbers watched it and had as much fun laughing about it as I did. I'm sure everything is AMGA-certified in the movie when all is said and done.
I watched the fall with my partner a few months ago and we were absolutely mind blown with those superhero babes catching the rope and holding factor two falls with a single arm; I mean I wouldn’t use a belay device either if I were that jacked. Simul climbing that tower with the rope clipped into absolutely nothing the entire way? So brave, so experienced.
This is definitely what my family thinks I’m doing when I say I’m climbing. It also has an 80% on rotten tomatoes so, the general public also believes this is what it looks like.
Reddit seems to think this movie is absolute gold and was pure terrifying. My wife and I couldn’t stop ripping every climbing scene to shreds for long enough to be scared.
The simul-climbing at the beginning and on the tower was hysterical
