eschewing safety protocols because one situation seems safe.  the whole point of protocols is you do them exactly the same every time.

Ah the new generation. Incapable of understanding that "simple" can bring joy in and of itself.

I gotta add though that even with all the shit kids these days insist on having on their harnesses (10 pounds of radios, "PASs," always a GriGri, prussics, the kitchen sink, God when does it end)? Even though they can't seem to climb with a gear sling and how can one miss the way they clip the 'biners to their harness backward? All that and most of them still climb harder grades than I do.

What's more, blind as they may be, they seem to have plenty of fun. Almost as much as we did at that age.

This is my climbing ick.

people who put their harness on at the car in spite of the 30 minute approach hike.  people who want you to leave the rope up for them while they are tying in to do another route or are otherwise distracted.

People who bring a ton of unnecessary stuff up the climb so that I have to either follow with a pack containing 20lbs of their stuff and 5lbs of my stuff; or lead with a pack.

When are you ever in a situation where you "have" to bring up other people's stuff?

Not so much ‘ick’, as ‘wretching vomit’.

Yours fit in that?  I didn't know they made protection that small.

Dirty sunglasses. I once dated a girl whose sunglasses were so filthy I don’t know how she could see. Perhaps that’s why she was dating me:)

whats the point of that, just looks cool???

what i said is i "have to" either bring up both people's stuff, or I have to lead with a pack. If both people's stuff is light, then the former option is fine. If one person's stuff is egregiously heavy, then both options suck.

Its the move for cannon cliff in nh. gear up, rack up in the parking lot and just wear  an ultra light daypack for your extra clothes.  otherwise you will have to drag a 40 lieter pack all the way up the cliff because the walk off rarely  passes the base of the climb.  Also a thing at many ice climbing venues where you might need to crampon up on the approach so you might as well be wearing your harness. Sucks putting your harness on while trying not to fall on a 40 degree ice slope...
