Team-Tough Crossover Bolt

I’ve placed at least a dozen crossover bolts now, including several of the newer, updated version. In very hard granite I have not been able to set one, even while pounding as hard as I reasonably can with a hefty ss hammer.

I’d like to share my 2 cents based on my experience.I have placed over 25 of the crossover bolts new and old style and believe they work very well. The newer version is definitely an improvement over the old one.

I’ve had mixed experiences with setting them. They tend to set fairly easily in about 80% of my placements. However, it can be challenging to pinpoint the exact causes of difficulty—factors like rock type, drill hole angle, type of drill bit, and hammer type all play a role. Additionally, the consistency of the crossover bolts may vary slightly due to their design and the way the newer version is shaped.

Anecdotally, I’ve found it easier to set the longer style of crossover bolts. Even in overhanging terrain, I haven’t felt the need to really drive them in; just one tap with the hammer ensures they won’t fall out or slide. I was using a stainless steal hammer for all of them.

I’ll provide some pictures to illustrate the differences between the new and old styles, including the shaved ends and larger clipping area

Hey Dave,

I’ve got a few routes coming up using glue ins in granite and granitic (gneiss, quarts monzonite, schist, pegmatite collections) rock and would be happy to test some samples in the process

Thanks Dave, I'd be happy to test them out as well, bolting in tuff, andesite, and basalt.

This is the first year Ive had to buy crossover bolts instead of the twists.... I can't set them.  I wack them and the adhesive seems to jettison out of the hole.

I place them passively every time now.  They are hard for me to eyeball straight for some reason with the side x side legs.

I still like them no complaints.  Mostly any bolt I don't have to notch is cool by me.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.

Fixed Hardware: Bolts & Anchors
