It's wild that Bruno defends shitty dog owners. Very few people are saying the dogs are at fault.  Every story he defends the dog and just glazes over that dog owners are on average incompetent.  I'm not mad at the dog for sitting on my rope, I'm mad a stupid owner brought the dog and then was like it's ya'lls problem now.

If you want to argue for dogs Bruno you're going to have to argue in favor of the majority of owners. My experience is that's a losing battle.

Bruno loses no battles in his mind. And to him that's all that matters

Bruno may be a lost cause, but I feel especially empathetic towards his daughter.

I'm genuinely curious what the law was here about leashes?

Unfortunately it does make a difference.

Sounds like a good people on both sides situation.

Leash laws on any trail in the area. I honestly couldnt give a shit, I  knew a guy there with an off leash dog, doesnt bother me and I didnt even care about the dog.  Im not going to soeak up about something like that.  Overall, I dont care for dogs at the crag these days. There are usually too many people, we don't need too many dogs too.  I love dogs, I have one at home.

But, my point is, if youre a dog owner, who reads all these insufferable threads about dogs, if you are going to have a dog, off leash, dogs that are going to ransack everyones space and then you also feel the need to approach others to warn them your dog gets scared from little kids, get lost, take your dog home.

End rant. Goodbye.

You're completely right. Yes, we love dogs, but they shouldn't bothering us.

Hmmm...sounds fishy.

Let me translate that.

Arrived at crag, two dogs come up to us normally wagging their tails to say high, I had a meltdown and kicked wildly at one dog and my shoe contacted it's face, other dog was figured 5yo might be friendlier but was mistaken, 5yo started swinging arms like a windmill because had no experience with dogs, owner was like, WTF, these humans are going to hurt my dogs, comments ensued.

About right?

I am pro dog all the way but this is a hilariously awful take. At no point did the post you’re replying to even slightly insinuate any of this lmao

You gotta start exposing kids early.  Then they don't develop unecessary fear reactions.

Are you referring to humans or dogs developing unnecessary fear reactions?

if so it might be worth familiarizing yourself with the history.

Its worth less than nothing. Such time spent actually subtracts off the end of your life. Don't do it bro.

So true Cherokee.  And yet, here we all are...

Todd and BigCountry coming out of the woodwork on cue.  Hi guys!

You didn't get my comment.  When I said, "Here we all are," I wasn't talking about dogs and dog owners...I was talking about all the misanthropes on MP, myself included, who keep posting about the same old shi*t.

As evidenced by your posts--and mine!

Dear Bruno,

I had another shitty dog owner experience.  3 owners with 3 unleashed dogs were scrambling around Ruth Lake on Sunday above a bunch of parties. On a talus the dogs rained down rocks as they freely wandered around.  Several rocks hit other dogs that were leashed and well behaved.  The owners told us we need to wear helmets while their dogs wander around on the loose rocks above everyone in the belay area.  I told them to get their dogs somewhere safer for everyone and that they hurt other dogs who do not have helmets.

Also last year in the exact same spot a dog knocked a rock down and hit a climber in the head who was eating a sandwich.

Also the dog owner was a major unwanted beta sprayer. What a great time.

You should really just be thankful that the dog didn’t eat that sandwich; and also wear a helmet next time dude, come on. Doggy helmets are essential to dog friendly crags dontyaknow

As summoned, I will drop in to drop wisdom.

Some questions:

1-Are dogs allowed in this area off leash?  If so, the owners had every right to be there.  Suck it up.  If not, the dogs should have been on leash.

2-I question the wisdom of anybody hanging out below others on a talus field.  It's kind of like hanging around below an ice climb and complaining when you get hit by ice.

3-The dogs are sure to more sure-footed on the talus than the humans.  The danger was from the people above not the dogs.

Carry on.

Bonus pic of Luna and her pack (some on leash, some off, depending on recall).

The other day, group of 4 had 4 off leash dogs. Dogs wouldn’t respond to verbal commands, were all over our stuff. Depending who was climbing in this group two of the dogs would wail incessantly.

Someone mentioned up thread chocolate cake. I think I’ll start carrying Hershey bar with me and leave it half eaten. If dogs get into my stuff I’ll just inform the owners that their dog just ate 1/2 my chocolate bar. That might teach them a lesson.

1- No. Dogs are required to be on a leash in the High Uinta recreation area including Ruth Lake and all other crags.  So this should end your other points which are in my opinion quite dumb.

2- So this is the route that is under a Talus field. It has almost 700 ticks.  It's pretty damn popular and quite safe to belay and climb, unless there are a bunch of incompetent dog owners struggling on the 5.7s above this route. Click on the link you can get an idea of where it's at.

3- I'm not really sure what you're saying here. We literally saw 2 dogs walking on loose rock and trundle baseball size rocks down onto another dog.  The Humans didn't trundle it as they were tied into the wall like 100 yards away. Why are you trying to gaslight what I and about 8 other people saw?

I don't really know what else I can say other then you live in some other reality.  None of this was made up and is based on actual events.

Anyway, thanks for the weird reply and examples of how a lot of dog owners live in another world devoid of accountability towards their pets impact.

I understand the underlying motivation, but please don’t do this. Dogs are just being dogs…as usual, the problem is the owner. The strategy you are suggesting is just plain cruel.

Now, if there was a way to levy this kind of discomfort on the owner, I’d be all for it…

I agree.  If the laws says the dogs should be on leash, then the dogs should be on leash.

So 700 sheeple climbed and felt the need to "tick" soute sthat sit under a large talus field with climbs above?

Seems like a good way to get hit by a rock.

Not smart.

Sheeple? You got like some Tucker Carlson talking points.  Weak retort.

I'll summon you when I have another bad experience and see what a shitty dog owner is thinking.  It's at least helpful to understand what story they tell themselves.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
