Ok I’ll kick the hornet’s nest… What’s going on with the Waimea ladder? Seems as though someone took it down and locked it to a tree. (Odd choice, if you ask me.)

Just do the techno dihedral, it isn’t that hard. But that thing just seems to sprout legs and apparently it has a bondage fetish now.

Agreed it’s relatively straightforward to climb up there. The problem is when multiple people want to work several of the five routes starting on the ledge (all of which are among the best sport routes in the northeast, if not the country). If everyone has to climb the techno start, it will be a total clusterfuck.

Seems like yet another good reason to just replace the ladder with a via ferrata to the ledge.

Just cut the bike lock and put it back. It is better for the cliff and people management then everybody sliming up the bottom of Techno and can be temporarily removed if somebody actually wanted to climb Single Cell. It is only obtrusive to a fanatic.

Why is there a ladder?

It was mentioned upthread. There are 5 routes that start on a ledge with only one way to get to them. The ladder bypasses it and allows multiple people to get to the ledge easily.

Also, multiple comments have disappeared from this thread since this morning.

I’m sure there is a youtube video by Trevor McNally on how to open that bike lock with a rock and bottle of lube. And yeah, put that thing back fr. It is pretty handy.

The person removing the ladder should post a video of themself sending Single Celled.

Did this ever get resolved/returned?

Yes, someone cut the lock on May 16th and the ladder was put back in it’s normal spot
