So I am a journalist and a climber and I have an idea for a book that I think would be interesting to write.

I'm looking for climbers who can help me. I envision a book about the climbers of Devil's Tower. I'm looking for people who have a unique story about how climbing on the Tower impacted their life. I'm not paying people to do this but I also  wouldn't take much of your time so if you're interested please feel free to PM me or text me on my cell 605-877-1580. Thanks!!!

I don’t know, but I’ve been told, Franklin’s Tower is a friend of the Devils Tower.

I'll spill some beans. PM sent.

Here's a shot of the Tower from the porch at Frank Sanders Devil's Tower Lodge in about 2004. A magical place.

Try to contact Curt Love...he was on MtnProj.

If alive, he can be a good story teller.

Too bad to hear that opinion. Haven't seen him him years, but he was a very enthusiastic climber and fun to be around. He was also very talented.

I don't think that "Dingus" was meant as an opinion regarding Mr. Love. 'Dingus McGee' was/is the pen name for one time Devil's Tower activist and ( with Last Pioneer Woman=Hollis Marriott) guidebook author Dennis Hornung. So 'old fat...' was just suggesting him as a potential source of material for the OP.

While I can't specifically say that the Tower 'impacted my life' in any specific way, I can tell some stories of climbing there in the mid-60s, when an ascent of the formation was a rite of passage for Midwest climbers, as I then was.

To put it more clearly, 'aha' misunderstood.  Dingus is a reference to Dennis Horning, one of the great pioneers of the Black Hills and Devils tower.

Got it.

Further Dingus reference clarification.

I’ll pm a couple stories where I met god/the gods on the tower.  One in a bad way, one in a good way.

Thank you all and to those who already reached out.

I am doing this as a project of love, and planning to donate anything made off of it.

I expect this will take a bit to compile as people contribute!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
