Rory Hwrote: Bingo! Excellent, Rory; over to you. |

Okay, haven't done this one yet but it is on my to-do list for 2024 assuming I can find a partner who is willing to 'shwack up thru a mile of elevation gain (avoiding the Yellowjackets) to get to 500 feet of moderate climbing. I swear the views of Icicle Creek Valley will make it all worthwhile... |
I'll hazard a guess. On the basis that Prusik appears to satisfy the approach and route length criteria, and that anything on the South Face is unlikely to afford views of Icicle Creek Valley to the north - until you get to the top, which would apply to all routes - I'm going for https://www.mountainproject.com/route/105808527/west-ridge Edit. Ah yes - good point; I'd overlooked the lack of dense undergrowth! I have to admit that I've only visited Prusik once, in June 1977. |
Good guess, but not Prusik. EDIT: While Prusik does meet the approach elevation mentioned, it is definitely not a bushwhack to get to it by any regular method. But the route I am thinking of is the same grade as the W. Ridge of Prusik. Just "dig" a little deeper and you'll get it... |

NF of the Mole? |
You got it Drederek. You are up! |
Head directly up from the road. A long bolted skinny slab leads to a laybacking gear finish. If you skip half the bolts you should have plenty of draws to combine both pitches into one. If you plan on leaven the area without climbing this worth-y climb you'll just have to hike back up another day. |
This route was probably put up by a shirt tag tester. |
And a very straight street it is, till you take the hard left turn to the anchor! |
Ah! Looks like it's me again. "This 1962 Washington route appeared when Davy's Common Era bike got mangled." |

Drederekwrote: I'm just curious, but how does this lead to the route Straight Street? |

Jon Nelsonwrote: Straight Street is an anagram of 'shirt tag tester'. |
Ignatius Piwrote: Oh man, you are good at this. Thanks for the explanation- |
Jon Nelsonwrote: Cheers; I'm going with 'psychic'! Possibly a good time to mention that the current route sounds a bit like an erstwhile star of stage and screen.... ....particularly famed, through the medium of song, for her eyes.... ....courtesy of 'KC' - but not the one with The Sunshine Band! We generally abbreviate 'Anno Domini' to AD. |
I thought you were being all tricky with "Common Era" and meant for us to infer "Anno Domini" and therefore "AD". Now I've got it!! Beckey-Davis on Prusik Peak. FYI - I am loving Ignatius Pi's clues. Assuming I am correct can I defer my turn back to you?? |
Rory Hwrote: Spot on, Rory - and appreciate the compliment! I'm guessing you've also identified the 'star of stage and screen', and KC. Due to shortage of 'material' I'd normally try to politely decline and urge you to post up. Living on the other side of the planet I don't have a head full of PNW crags and routes to draw upon - and I've pretty much used up the few of which I have personal experience; so it generally takes me awhile to come up with something. And I really enjoyed your Mole clue despite being unable to work it out. However; this one just came to mind while typing - so I'll give it a shot:- "While descending this route I was surprised to find 'parked' a whole bunch of mobility items that in no way resembled the vehicles that one might expect to encounter at that location." As always: "here's an easy one". Except they always look easy when you already know the answer! |
The 'mobility items' were skis - a whole forest of them, planted in the snow. Edit to Drederek. That's not the correct answer - but, possibly inadvertently, you're actually quite warm with regard to the expected vehicle. Not Baker. |
The bottom of the hogsback on mt hood is the only place I can recall seeing a forest of skis but we did hike up a ski run to get there. |
