Is it too hot to climb out there?

Wanted to get up to Plotinus or Sport Park or somewhere in the canyon after work this week.  Does the SP cool down enough to climb by 6?  I know it gets blasted all day up there...  What are people's threshold for climbing in hot weather?

I have a low tolerance for heat. So I study Sun angles for sun and shade this time of year. Plotinus gets a shit ton of Sun during the day and may go in the shade late after noon but will have absorbed a tremendous amount of heat. That means it will be radiating that heat back out on your body even when it goes into the shade.  I’ve never been to sport park.

What sort of climbing are you looking for? There are definitely more shady options in the canyon.

I'm looking for sport routes.  I'm familiar with Nip & Tuck, Dream Canyon, The Sport Park, but that's about it up there.  My guidebook doesn't go in to great detail about when crags are in the shade.  I drove through the canyon this weekend after hiking out of East Inlet, and it looked like most areas were pretty deserted.  I took that as a sign it might just be too hot right now.

You can go really early. I've climbed at N. Table mountain in July from 6 am to 10 am; it gets hot as hell there by midday.

Wow, your book sounds wack. The whole south side of the canyon is shady. Avalon, Sherwood, Tonnerre for starters.

Would be fun if it weren’t for those biting flies

Like Adam mentioned, check out Avalon, Sherwood Forest, Tonnere Tower, Cascade Crag (Across From The Bihedral), Vampire Rock, Solaris, Mountain Rose, maybe Chicken Wall at Sport Park?

Really appreciate all the feedback, including the biting flies!  Thanks everyone

There's also a rudimentary sun angles viewer built in to the area guides here on MP.

Does anybody know how to get that to work on the mobile app? It is a nice feature and I wish I could use it on my phone.

mp sun angle only works in browser easy copy and paste from app to any browser if u have data

maybe try the other sun shade app listed above and cross reference from lat long which is listed in most mp route area descriptions if no data

Caltopo app also has sun/shade as a layer.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
