Lori, in case you have been living under a rock, the hot new show on TV is The Last of Us on HBO and is basically another zombie show except in this case it is Cordyceps that has taken over people's brains.  Having watched a couple episodes, it appears to be just as stupid as every other zombie show.

No! I didn’t know! We channel surfed right by it a couple of times but didn’t know what it was about.

I’m still pretty undone about this idea… actually lost a little sleep with those pictures floating in my head. I don’t know how they produce the commercial cordyceps but I’m pretty sure it’s not on bugs. Even so… as a plot for a series I think it could be great. I hope they didn’t f it up too bad. Thanks Jan!

Not so absurd, and possibly where the plot originates.  There is a parasitic fungus that infects ants and makes them climb to the top of grass and then attach themselves so they will be more vulnerable to a certain prey (frogs, maybe ?) so the parasites can then complete the life cycle.  Even more bizarre, the ants only do this at the time of day when the predators are most active.

A friend told me he spotted a new bloom on a Joshua tree, so I thought I’d go for a nature walk this morning and see what’s up. The park is quiet. Really no sign of what’s to come in the Spring. No lizard, squirrel, chipmunk, snake. It’s cold and quiet. Brent said he has a bloom in his yard but for the rest of the park Spring is still a ways off. I did walk by the Sphinx.  Just nice to get out and roam.

P.S.  Green route is some sort of overhanging .10.  Blue is a beauty, technical and powerful at .12+/.13-.  Above my pay grade.

Gosh darn.  I had to watch the first episode of The Last of Us and it sucked.  An opportunity missed.  I mean here we had a real parasitic fungus that could have caused untold misery and instead it was all about explosions and chases.

There’s no better zombie movie than Night Of The Living Dead.  Why try to improve upon it?

You’re the best looking climber in the gym in those pants!

Lori, where did you find the white sage in the park?  One of my favorite plants and so nice to burn - in moderation.  None of that burning giant clumps around myself, that is just overkill.  Just a bit of a leaf and then put it out.  I've been testing when the best time to harvest it is for the best smelling smoke and I feel like late fall when the water is gone from the plant and it is almost withered up is the best time.  But I just harvested the largest leaves I have ever seen (due to our wet winter) and I am waiting for it to really dry out to test it out.

Thanks for that compliment, Phylp.  The pants are well made and elegant.  Thanks so much for them.
I think I will even take them outdoors, on cooler days, when I need that extra oomph for a send.
Thanks again.

Ants with parasites climb to the top of grass where sheep eat the grass with ants on them and sheep poop with parasites in poop snails come along and eat poop then leave a trail of slime with parasites & ants eat the slime & it starts all over again.

I blame all my bad decisions in life on parasites!

That is one heck of a cycle!  Thanks for detailing it out.

I too blame all my bad decisions on parasites/fungus eating away my grey matter! I will eventually go mad, turn into a zombie, or both!
I enjoy raw fish sushi too and that does not appear to help either. I am doomed. C'est la vie

All of us were parasites for at least 9 months....

I got out with Bob again today, made a beeline for King Dome. I know there’s thousands of roots in Joshua tree I haven’t climbed, but I don’t want to go anywhere else right now! This won’t be here for long. It’s already getting very warm on that wall. I am pleased to see that each time I’m a little stronger and when I am tempted to get really down, I have to remember that a couple of months ago I couldn’t even have walked to that rock let alone climb it. So I’m trying to keep gratitude in mind.

The thing about parasites is as of the last test a few weeks ago I still have a parasite, even though it is now quantified as “rare“ but I can’t help wondering if even at the lowest amount it is causing me ongoing trouble. I just can’t take any more drugs or even herbs for this right now so I am stuck with it for a while longer. Even so if I had decided to take the cordyceps when I was researching it, I might be a little freaked out today.

BTW S Neoh… I LOVE your climbing pants. Very dapper!  Good job Phylp!!!

Jan... the Comic Book area is flush with white sage.  I pinched off a little sprig and brought it home with me... it just smells so lovely.  Tony and I come from different universes: he likes Downey on everything and 'fresheners' in and out of the house.  He has some favorite chemical things he sprays on his body after a shower, I just sit back and laugh.  And I bring home dirt and sage.  Slowly all the products that I really object to have been replaced with ones I buy, but I know he feels like he's been robbed of essentials.
