The Climb on HBO

Anyone know what the trad route was in episode six? I think it said it was 12c but in my opinion looked no where near that difficult. |

Jon Zuccowrote: The most plausible theory is that the route is two pitches and the second gets the higher grade. Most of us would agree that what they climbed on the show was in the 5.10 range. |

F r i t zwrote: Ahhh, yeah that must be it. There was one section that looked like it could be 5.10, but the rest of it looked like a Moab 7 or 8 to me. |

Fuck the haters, I liked it. Obviously cheesy at times but worth the watch. |

LOL - this year's "5.9 at my gym". |

Brad Johnsonwrote: I had never heard of her (not that that means anything, because I'm old, don't read the mags, watch videos, do social media, etc.) so looked her up. She appears to be basically a plastic puller comp climber and American Ninja Warrior contestant, which is fine, but what piqued my interest was in the FA episode after she said something to the effect that climbers are known/remembered/remarkable for the FA's, something to that effect (which ironically is an old Mr. Wayism). So I looked her up thinking well, she must put up routes since she's spraying in that way. As far as I can tell, no FA's. |

Heyzeuswrote: She's FA'd V11 boulders I believe - I'd have to hunt down the video but I believe Hunter Damiani or JWebb found a boulder line that she ended up FAing at something between V9 and V13 but I think it was V11. edit: Found it: At 56:00. Belly of the Beast V10 |

Tal Mwrote: But boulders arent real FAs , they are FPAs and only count a tiny little bit mainly because nobody cares about history in that crowd. Its all about the send. |

Tal Mwrote: Thanks! She's obviously a super strong, gifted climber, and I love her gymnastics background. I must be dense though, I didn't see the problem she did in the movie (which looked horrendous and wicked hard) as a FA though. Her website, which might not be current, lists that she climbed it but doesn't say it was an FA. Not sure where you got that info, I couldn't find it. http://www.meaganmartinclimbing.com/outdoor-accomplishments |

Heyzeuswrote: Yeah looks like I was incorrect about it being an FA - thought it was from the way she was talking about it but looks like Hunter actually FA’d it and called it V11. Not sure when it got downgraded but apparently sometime before this film |
