I got an email from Al with the following content, and am following his wishes. "I can’t seem to log on to MP to thank you and the others who have commented. It doesn’t recognize my password and I haven’t been able to navigate how to create a new one—I am very tech incompetent!!!! So could you please post a thank you on my behalf." |

Tried three times to register on widefetish, but I didn't answer the verification questions correctly. Apparently El Cap is neither in Yosemite Valley nor California! |

Iirc, Al is Alan Rubin when he posts? When I searched for Alan Rubin, there was one member that came up, but clicking on it just yielded a 408 no page message. Zero in the forums. So I searched Old lady H.
All I can think of is that there are over 1000 results for routes, with any piece of those 3 things. Sorry Al! I'm pretty sure you do actually exist. Or we all had a grand group hallucination?? Congrats on retirement, but most especially, thanks so much for all those years of serving the underserved! I'm supposed to be hopping on my newly issued exercise routine. Ummmm. Or get the dishes washed. Errrr..... Had cheesecake yesterday so that's out. Hmmmmm.... Best, Helen |

Al, what an amazing career! Now go have fun - climb more? Travel more? I’m sure after the dust settles on this makeover, you’ll get your account back. Looking forward to seeing you back soon. Phyl |

Very nice except, omigod, I know that ceiling light fixture. I'm staring at one in my study right now. Changing bulbs in those things is a pain. |

Very nice Nick. Sorry I wasn't able to get over to see you when I was back east. I got sick in Virginia & lost a week. I did 8500 miles in six weeks. One week lost in Virginia & four days stuck in Lander during a beautiful blizzard. New Hampshire |

It was an incredibly stressful time with the old cabin being sold before I had a new place and the move and buying the new place etc. Glad you had a safe trip. Bummer about getting sick. |

Nick… beautiful pictures. Like a dreamscape. Looks like you’re getting it done and it’s becoming home. If we could all be there we’d help… you’d have a barn raising with all your MP friends.
Meanwhile I have really paid for my little caper the other day. Although my EBV friends all warned me to rehydrate the level of exhaustion was about far more than electrolytes. I thought I might not get through the day yesterday. Honestly cried pretty hard the whole day and Tony kept finding a little glimmers of hope here and there. I never know what to expect with this journey… Over the last week I put 5 pounds on and woke up this morning wanting roast beef for breakfast. Tony’s got some short ribs cooking and I keep asking him is it done yet? In my mind I have given my downward decline through the winter solstice in a few days – – go ahead and do your worst up till then. After that we are turning this ship around. Sorry can’t seem to get rid of that second video. |

Hang in there, Lori! I went bouldering today. The Buttermilks were beautiful as usual. V3 seems to be my limit at this point. Six weeks on the road didn't do my climbing any favors. |

Hello, Miracles do happen and it appears that I have--at least for now, regained the ability to respond to messages. Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Still not sure what I'll do once retired--actually may be 'recalled' to do some work on a part time basis for the same Agency. If so, might not be 'really' retired (in MA a retiree from state service gets a % (not a big %!!!) of their salary as a pension, but can then work for the state for the number of hours per year of the balance between that % and their last salary level). Just have to see what happens. To add to Randy's comment, I should point out that Randy was also one the the members of the AAC Access Committee that broke off (mostly by mutual agreement) to form the Access Fund. Of the various things that I have done over the years, my involvement in climbing access work has been some of both the most frustrating and satisfying--often simultaneously. Alan |

Hey Alan! Glad you made it back! Happy semi-retirement. I was having a chuckle over this picture today. Ticking off the Houser routes this one still remained (a lot still remain!) Two Scoops Please. I bent into every kind of pretzel shape and whanked my head in the first “scoop”, and finally had to declare it “Impossible”. Nelson proceeded next and got it. Nice memories. |

Lori, the famous Mike Waugh who has done more scary, death defying runout routes than most, didn't used to lead. Two Scoops was one of his first leads and he sat right where you are sitting in the photo for so long that I had to throw him up a soda, which he proceeded to spray all over me because I wouldn't let him down. He ended up leading it clean and I was happy to squeak thru the last move or two. He never looked back! |
