New and Experienced climbers over 50 #23

I'm with RGold - I've been on a number of forums that have died. That said, this is the last puddle of what was once a mighty ocean. Will be sorry to see it go if it does. I'll check out the FB group, though I really hate the format of the FB feed in comparison to a web forum or even rec-dot. GO |

I’m pretty sure my perspective doesn’t count nearly as much as those who were around im the glory days and on super topo. While I have sort of been given credit for starting this thread back with #1 I had no idea I was starting a thread. I was just a new arrival in Joshua Tree and didn’t know where to begin or where to find a friend so someone suggested I ask the question on mountain project. that was my contribution. What I don’t think any of us expected was to find ourselves in a community of people across the nation and really throw in Australia and sometimes Europe who would get to know each other and care enough to get together regularly and talk about everything. I mean our homes and our families and pictures of the kids, death and injuries and struggles, tips for health with every shade of advice – – we’ve kind of avoided politics but I think we would do fine with it. One of the great joys of this thread has been that people I like the most turned out to be pretty far to the Right… And maybe they haven’t minded getting to know someone a little more Left. I am far less entrenched than I used to be because we like each other so much and we listen. It all started with Jeep guy for me. That’s not to mention some incredible Climbing – – far beyond what anyone would expect from “old folks“. And amazing amount of experience and wisdom from people like Rich and all seasoned climbers. I always felt sad that I didn’t run off and join a commune when I was younger. My favorite midwife, Ina may Gaskin, is still on her commune in Tennessee and now she’s midwifing old folks on to their deaths. But what we have here in this forum has turned out to be pretty close to that. I think we will be seeing one another right up to the grave, showing up for one another if only virtually, checking in on each other… so all I have is gratitude for this forum. The Facebook page is always there although we really haven’t used it. It did occur to me that for super-animated conversations we could have a thread “A” and a thread “B” so you could sort of hop over to the next thread if you needed to keep talking although I have learnt to shut up at least a little. I do think they should make an exception for threads like this where actual conversations go on but no big deal. |

I know you guys are very sensitive, but if you wanted I can open up a safe space forum for you over on WideFetish. I know you are scared. Don’t be. If you stay in your own forum you will be fine. Interested? It would take me like 5 minutes to get it set up. Sample here: widefetish.com/forum/index.… |

Russ…. Maybe it’s time for me to dig out the flack jacket, helmet and brass knuckles and go look into the “wide” again. Only problem is this, when I go there I start getting these invitations to go to BDSM parties and eMails from “Women?” Offering services. Have you fixed the leaks? Don’t know about MP going pay… looks to me like some sort of upgrade gone south. We will see what goes down with it. Lori I hope you feel better for the holidays and the sunshine that is coming helps you. Later all |

Guy, I am on the Wide most days and have never received the emails you are referencing. |

Guy Keeseewrote: hahaha... yeah, all leaks fixed. Russian bots can't even find us now. |

GabeOwrote: Well, I fell for the troll about the "premium" version---wasn't paying much attention when I read it. So maybe we'll be soldiering on...time will tell. |

I have gotten so fed up and frustrated with “self care“ and forced rest that today I just decided to put my sick self in the car, drive to the park and walk the loop. I figured if I crapped out somewhere along the way Somebody would just have to pick me up and carry me back to the car. Worth the risk! It was very cold and very windy but it just felt good to be there. It has been since fucking September since I took a walk in the park. I have had more than a few laughs over a scenario where I finally get out to climb with Bob and having a long shitload of routes I want to climb and where I am sure Bob would never care to climb again but he might have a hard time turning me down. This is one of them…something about an elephant. I have a long list of whack routes I like to climb that would usually be a “no” but out of pity might become a “yes”. I want to climb the elephant. Actually Bob’s elephant. And leaning tower of babel over on Trix that I jam so enchanted with. And I’d like to climb just once in a swami belt. I know I’d be pushing my luck but you never know. |

Russ Wallingwrote: That's very nice of you to offer. Perhaps set it up if the MP Forums disappear or go paywall, and we will know where to gather? The FB format is useless when it comes to groups. I'm not scared of anything, just don't have the desire to go too many different places in cyberspace. I check my email, do FB and MP and that's it. No Twitter, Instagram, etc. I did click the link though and saw lots of posts from Ron A! Glad he has a "safe space". |

Go for it Russ! |

Ken Tubbswrote: When I go “wide” it’s on my IPhone- and to Jan. Use Google and do a few searches for “Wide Fetish” …. Then you will get included in the messages, don’t be left out of the fun! I went Wide yesterday for a few minutes- still the same cast of characters mostly. Fun times! |

Why in the world would I ever search google for wide fetish. That would get me banned at work. You know that old song Keesee, 'sometimes you got to know when to hold them'. |

This probably wasn’t wise but my friend Chris has been cajoling me for weeks now to see how it feels to climb again. It felt great, even climbing while sick. The downside is I am now back home and it will be some considerable recovery.
this particular route over at Indian cove was a 56 easy route, but what lit me up is the 58 slab next to it and reminded me of just how much I love slab. I don’t want to have to leave it behind so that’s what made me finally decide to pick up that prescription from the pharmacy. |

We all have "other lives." Al Rubin has been a dedicated public defender for 50 years, and is finally retiring at 77, after a lifetime of dedicated public service. Here's an article about him. https://www.gazettenet.com/Alan-Rubin-retirement-49109690. |
