My girlfriend and I want to cross the US east to west and climb along the way, starting in New York. But we don't have a car... First stop would be red river gorge. Anyone willing to give us a lift?

My girlfriend climbs around 5.11 and I climb 5.12/5.13

Um, suggest you get a car. Doing it without will become a royal PITA in short order.

sure at somepoint (Colorado/Nevada) we'll rent something. But we thought it might be nice to share the long distances.

If youre able to get to the Red, you'll still need to catch a ride to the crags everyday (nothing within walking distance). I'm all for sharing costs and lessening your environmental impact, but 2 people is gonna be hard to hitch. Best of luck to you, id love to hear how it goes!

All the rage at the Red this year. You can rent them out at Miguel's. The goats have gotten so good, one look and they can size you up and take you to the crag that will most suit you.

Last time I was at the Red, the goats were waiting with cardboard name placards.  Very convenient.

Are you flying to the Red from NYC, and then planning to fly to the next destination? Or are you asking for someone to give you a lift from NYC to the Red? Two extra people with gear for an extended trip would be a tall order to fit into someone’s car (presumably already packed with their own gear for a long trip), and a drive from NYC is quite long.

There would be lots of people at the Red in October, so I suppose doesn’t hurt to ask. But it is not a very convenient destination for a car-less climber, and harder still if there are two of you that need a ride. You should probably rent a car.

-5x convenience

+5x adventure

I wouldn't personally want to put a GF in the extra danger. It has been weird enough when I have done it by myself. There are just too many really whacked out people on meth or what have you nowadays.

Two people with large packs? It depends, but probably on the lower end of likelihood.

I thought the state of NY doesn't allow hitchhiking. I once tried hitchhiking from Manhattan to the Adirondacks, got picked up by a friendly state trooper who drove me a ways (first time in the back of a police vehicle, I must say it was quite a novelty) and left me at a gas station. He told me hitchhiking (from roadside) is illegal in the state and I would have to ask around at gas stations to get a ride instead.
