What’s the outside climbing scene like in the Dallas FTW area?

Not sure if this is the correct page but, I’m considering accepting a position in Dallas and wondered where people usually climb outside over the weekends. It looks a little bleak reading through the mp pages, but where do Texans climb typically? I’ve been to EPC a couple of times and figured that’s wishing a week trip range, but do people usually go to Arkansas or Oklahoma for the weekends. Also I’m gonna need partners in a month.

Most people will travel to Oklahoma, Arkansas or Austin to climb.  I like climbing at Hamm Creek Park and Nolan River, which is only an hour or so from Dallas.  Hmu when you get settled, I'm always looking for partners.

I just moved to East Dallas. I've been searching a lot of Jim Day's local stuff on the app (thank you for all the entries!) especially around Hamm Creek. We're actually planning to go camping out there this weekend or next to finally do a first outside climb in the area.

I just finished a first draft of a PDF guide here:

Also recommend the OutdoorTX Android App or google maps to help navigate your location while hiking

Not much at all. Nothing to really build on unless you don’t mind driving to horseshoe often. They closed pob years ago that was an okay place to get outside. It was kinda like reimers, pretty chossy n polished but not over crowded with people so it was nice.

Dang thanks for the info. Does anyone go to Witchita mountain in OK? It looks like a 4 hour drive (depending on where you start from in DFW as I'm learning) and seems pretty solid with some old school lines.

Yes, it's a popular spot for DFW climbers.  Members from the "DFW Climbers" and "Dallas Climbing Group" facebook groups often post about it.  Also Quartz Mountain in OK.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
