Today I was at a new wall, built my anchor and lowered in, I stood at the base of the climb and scoped the holds, then hopped on it and sent clean first try, initially I was like, “yeah, onsighted it!” But idk if that really counts on TRS. Obviously if you’re really scoping out the holds on the descent that would change things… but if you simply lower and climb it clean, what do you call that?
it’s obviously different than TR as you don’t have a partner keeping the rope taut and you definitely know it when you fall (or weight the rope) on TRS…
Obviously not the same risk/ perceived danger as leading either…
according to many who care about the distinction of lead flash versus lead onsight, looking at the holds from the base, but having no prior knowledge, would be onsight. If you reviewed the climb as you were lowering in, that would be flash.
Since you aren’t a sponsored climber making public claims about notable sends, and you aren’t in a sporting competition of some kind, it really doesn’t matter what you call it.
Again, you get to do whatever you want, it’s just good if you are honest with yourself and others about what you did.
Only you know how much prior knowledge you got from the rap in. Sounds like it could be a trash or a Tronsight.
IMO there is no distinction between a top rope send and a TRS send.

He could call it a banana. Or a type writer!
Actually it does matter. Telling someone you flashed a route thatg was in reality top roped is either ignorant or deceptive. And the ignorance excuse just flew out the window.
