Lol, all the full grown adults whining about the cops. Ya'll talk like this but every climber group I've been with in the Creek drinks and drives all damn day & smokes pot while driving to monticello, endangering everyone else. I hope the cops show up in in force.

How do you propose paying for shared services that benefit all citizens? Consider things like:

  • roads
  • fire fighting
  • policing
  • water and sewers
  • garbage removal
  • snowplowing
  • toxic mine cleanups resulting from bankrupt companies
  • et al......

Most of these should be paid by user fees, when feasible.  It is now possible to have all vehicles pay a time-based, location-based fee for every mile driven.  One issue is being tracked at all times, but it seems many phones and cars already have that issue.

Homes in high fire hazard areas should pay for what is now subsidized firefighting service from the state or USFS that often focuses on protecting private homes instead of public land.

In cities, most calls to the fire dept are actually health emergencies, not fires.

Typical modern mines do have a lot more requirements for bonding / insurance which is supposed to cover cleanup.   https://www.gao.gov/assets/gao-19-436r.pdf   The test would be a broad study of all mines that closed in recent years to see if cleanup has actually vastly improved over the historical abandonment method.

I personally knew Johnny Hurley. They shot him in the back without warning after he ended a cop-killer and then declared the killer cop free from consequences because it was an emotional few moments. Had anyone had footage of the shooting they were prepared to go with qualified immunity.

I was raised by cops. My dad was a powerful LEO. I took the test for DPD once and scored in the 95 percentile. Didn't get a spot because they had quotas for minorities and I was ok with that.

Policing has devolved, significantly, in the ladt decade or so.

does anyone know what are the closest crags and boulders to the rainbow gathering?

maybe consider that a forrest fire is unlikely to be started because national forest service is sending in a team of rangers and commanders as the NF is  treating this gathering as an "incident"

also very few drainbow gutter punks meth heads attend,

and the gathering has running water lines going to a dozen or more kitchen sites and a creek nearby and thousands of people who could potentially make a fire line and put water on a small fire if one broke out

Fires aside, do you not see how this is going to destroy whatever outdoor area they set up in?

Lol didn’t the USFS start one of the New Mexico fires recently?

Yeah because a bucket brigade will totally be able to put out a fire fueled by 90mph winds and a buttload of beetle kill.

You have the internet - look it up yourself.

If you’re not able to figure this out on your own I don’t have any confidence in your groups ability to plan this event.

You still haven't addressed most of the issues in the aforelinked letter to the editor. Specifically this excerpt (bolded emphasis mine):

Adams Park is an area where local elk are now dropping calves. It is a CPW-indicated elk calving area and elk concentration area for the E2 Bear’s Ears elk herd, the second largest elk herd in Colorado. Adams Park is also home to numerous other species that are sensitive to the impacts of human disturbance. It is unconscionable to allow an assembly approximately the size of Steamboat Springs in this sensitive area. The impact is worsened by the fact that many in the Rainbow gathering are bringing dogs who, unleashed, pose a clear threat to local wildlife and their offspring.

This gathering is not benign. A Forest Service report from the previous event in Routt County in 2006 can be read online at https://www.steamboatpilot.com/news/rainbow-gathering-update/

Among other things, the report warns of fire hazards, water and riparian issues, inadequate human and dog waste disposal, soil erosion and compaction, wildlife displacement, parking problems with 4,000 to 6,000 vehicles, tree-cutting, impacts of domestic dogs on wildlife, and violence against law enforcement officers.

That's cause Maybe Consider is just another person wanting to be cool by hyping the event that he himself has no control of...  he's just another douch/homeless hippie wannabe

That or he / she is just a troll who has nothing to do the group or yet event.

Yes, and we're all very excited to be paying for that.

Ah yes, the real reason the country is polluted isn't negligent corporations thinking they won't get caught (or the penalty won't be severe enough) it's....the government! Yeah, that checks out. If I knew there were a 0% chance I got caught dumping toxic chemicals in a lake or pumping them out of my factory instead of a 10% chance, I definitely wouldn't be even more incentivized not to give a shit about the environment. Explain to me how the Almighty Market is going to disincentivize shit like this because I for one am glad the EPA is preventing them from continuing to dump this carcinogenic colorless odorless gas out of their exhaust pipes into my neighborhood.

Of all the braindead libertarian takes, I think we've got a winner.

Interestingly left-libertarianism (IE, Anarchism, the original libertarianism) provides systems of checks in a way that right-libertarianism cannot. If the market in left-libertarianism starts going screwy the people have a lot of power to correct it. Under right-libertarianism you're mostly supposed to stick your fingers in your ears and sing "lalalalala the market is perfect I can't hear you."

Some of what he said about the state is correct, but he has indeed drunk the right-libertarian koolaid to the point that he has lost common sense.

Ayway, the shindig sounds fun, planning the cleanup sounds cool of y'all. Have fun out there.
