Not Hobo Greg wrote: Regular nuts, they’re dumb compared with offset nuts. You poor soul! You've clearly been led astray by the dark forces of climbing gear marketing. For us who actually place nuts (like 50 nuts or so in a day), there really are only two choices: BD or WC. No stinkin' offsets, no funky curved metolius stubborness or not even the cleaverly named wallnuts or peenuts. I got enlightened a bunch of years back. I followed a guy that carried offsets for a day at my home crag. He had been a full-time climber (dirtbag) for many years and was leading hard 5.11 at that time. So you would expect this guy to know how to place gear, right? After seeing a bunch of runouts passing A+ nut placements (where cams wouldn't fit) and this guy being shaken up and almost peeing his pants, I got a bit curious. With a not-so-veiled comment, I suggested "How'bout placing them nuts?". His reply was "Nah, can't do that. These things get stuck all the time". So I figured out that the perplexing popularity of the offsets is just another Tesla phenomenon. People think they are hip because they can afford the most expensive nuts on the market. Even though they barely ever use them, it is good enough for them to have them unused dangling on their harness (together with their belay card?).
And if you really think standard nuts are dumb, I suggest you take a basic class learning how to place them instead of buying more fancy (and useless) gear. Yeah, I know you said you are out there climbing 200 days a year, but that still leaves another 165 days you can plan to take a class. But, as I am a fairly humble guy, I forgive you, buddy. Even though you claim to be a snob about your offsets, I can easily see that you're just plainly misguided, as all the other offset fans.

Peanut butter? Lox? Leftover steak? Nutella???!!! Wut? Nothin' on the bread? Are you completely out of your mind? Of course I put stuff on my bread! It's usually a thin slice of what would be best described as ... eeeh ... "air cheese". Sooo delish!

Reese Stanleywrote:Effort and self limiting thinking. If you want to climb hard, you have absolutely no right to complain about not improving, or not sending if you aren't trying hard. The two most common examples of this: - People looking at a move, or getting into the position before a hard move and then saying "I can't do it"... you can. All you're doing is self limiting and defeating yourself before you even start. If you tell yourself you can't... you can't. If you tell yourself you can, you can or at least you'll give it all you've got. If you leave all the cards on the table and still can't send, at least you tried and you should be proud of yourself for giving it 100%. No shame in failure if you give it your all.
- People "trying" a move with a bent arm, limp wrist, and no tension. If you aren't going to commit to the move, don't even bother trying it. Admittedly, I'm guilty of this from time to time but, it is important to force yourself to actually commit if you want to send. Otherwise, you're just wasting your time. If you have to convince yourself that you're trying hard... you aren't really trying hard.
I cannot tell you how many people could easily be capable of climbing a grade or two harder if they just actually tried. It isn't training, it isn't that you're weak, it isn't finger strength, it isn't core, it isn't that you're not good enough at climbing, it isn't the conditions, it isn't the fact that the span is too big, or the move is too hard.... it is effort probably 9 times out of 10. Grip it and rip it. Most of the time, the only difference between someone who climbs V4-6 or 5.11-5.12 and someone who climbs V8+ or 5.13+ is effort. Also, if climbing hard or trying hard or reaching your limit isn't your thing, there's nothing wrong with that. Everyone wants something different about climbing. Some want the adventure, some want to socialize, some just want to be out in nature, some just want to gym climb and hang out. If you're having fun and enjoying climbing, that's all that matters. Don't interpret this post as "everyone has to try hard", I'm only talking about people who want to climb hard/improve. okay…. as someone who is always wanting to climb harder but uses excuses way too often… i needed to see this. thank you :,)

Pino Pepinowrote: Cordalettes are way too heavy and impractical as belts. Chalk bag belts in general are annoying. Carabiners are also too heavy and make the chalk bag sit too low. Buy a chalk bag that fits your harness and use small cable ties to fix it to the rear gear loops, such that it sits higher higher up and level with the harness. Chalk bag is always in the same position that way. Snob opinions: Climbing 5.12 sport is not impressive at all, and if you think it is you have no clue. Any half-way serious weekend warrior climbs this as a warm up. There's plenty of 50+ year olds who casually onsight these grades. Climbing 13b doesn't make you part of some exclusive club either. Talking about "projects" that are 5.11 or below while hangboarding or other physical training also makes you sound like an idiot. Go climb more and improve your technique, because you suck at climbing. Unless you're fat, then you should probably also diet. worst response ever goes to:

Definitely a snob about overcomplicated anchors. No you don't need a pretied quad with 4 lockers to TR that route with bolted anchors. mountainproject.com/forum/t…

People who care if my gates face in or out. This has got to be the dumbest argument ever. It’s all personal preference. It’s like telling someone that they are masterbating wrong if they’re not doing it with the same hand that you do. GTFO!

Protection on a route has to have value. If it can't save me from injury or death it's not protection, it's a shittily bolted deathtrap. Same goes for highball boulders. My job depends on my physical ability, and a 40' boulder could permanently end my career.

I’m a slob when it comes to chicken wings, ribs, pulled pork, and most other BBQ staples. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
