Id have to say theres definitely diminishing returns on performance while high. Lol. The key is to get just high enough that I still feel bad about being a bitch and not pushing myself. Too much and I'm perfectly fine with sitting on my ass.

Any long endurance stuff is great while high - climbing though - forget it. I'm all over the place and cannot climb well at all.

The best climbing I've ever done was while high in the gym. I've flashed boulders in that state of mind that I was unable to repeat across multiple sessions while sober. The body and breath awareness was just crazy, and the climbing was basically happening automatically with little conscious effort coming from my brain.

I've never tapped into the flow state while sober, which sucks because all my climbing (gym or otherwise) is done sober these days. Still patiently waiting for that flow experience while climbing outside.

Never seemed to bother Dean Potter, but he did not live long enough to find out the cumulative effects.

Sounds like you depend on it. I climbed high for a long time, mainly having to do with partners/culture I spent my time with. Moving around a bunch has given me partners that do and partners that dont. Strange at first without it and I was worried about the flow but it really didn't seem to make any difference either way, my climbing was exactly the same. In fact now the main thing that keeps me from the "flow state" is not having complete faith in my belayer and who knows, maybe it was the weed that kept me from thinking about the belay?

Maybe I depend on weed for getting into a flow state, but not much else. I smoke rarely now and haven't smoked and climbed in forever. There was never a period where I smoked habitually throughout the day, and the number of times I smoked and climbed back in the day can probably be counted on two hands.

That being said, I might try to toke before my next gym session and see what happens.

It's crazy to me that your climbing is exactly the same with or without it. I normally don't have that level of awareness about my body position, movement, and especially breath. I also feel like I'm thinking too much during my climbing, which might have something to do with fear (which might track with your comment about trust in your belayer, though I feel like I'm typically worrying about things other than my belayer)? I'm not sure, honestly.

Yeah, probably not all the belay but a combo of that and caring more about suspect placements than I would if I was all chonged up. Of course wisdom might be in play too who knows.

The first time I climbed in Thailand for a few weeks was when I first tried the no weed thing. After jetlag was over the rock was just so fucking amazing I never even thought about it. Having moved around a bunch I can say I still prefer some smoke when doing the local circuits but usually lay off it for the onsight for whatever reason.

I do agree with the statements from this article. For me smoking weed and going on a walk, is the most precious time that I spend on myself. Being in a big family, it's very difficult to be alone and to meet your needs. I love walking and listen to a podcast, while high. It's "me" time, in a sense.
Also, I recently started growing on my own. The most important issue at the start, where finding a good legitimate source for seeds. The discounts I found here https://www.sfweekly.com/sponsored/seedsman-discount-code-get-25-off-all-orders-w-code-20as-256495, have made me change my mind. Now I can say that I'm a proud grower.

I usually smoke weed only after training in the gym, and it seems to me that this is what my body needs to recover. And if I don't have a workout that day, but I want to smoke weed, then I usually do everything first, come home from work and make a big joint, from which I will get high until the next day. I'm thinking of starting to grow grass myself, but I still don't know much about growing it. I found an article about the best grow tent, and now the only thing I need to know is how long and how to grow grass properly. I hope the police won't find out about this.

I've heard of people that can do it. I've never had luck with it. Mad respect to the people that can do it though.

I haven't bouldered without THC in years.  My experience is that on boulders it helps me focus, slow down, gives me more body awareness and specificity of movement is through the roof.  It also helps with pain and inflammation relief and recovery.  I can also barely stomach Coen Bros. films without it.  On ropes I don't mess with it because I've found it to have too much influence and I tend to ruminate and over-think when I shouldn't.  But for bouldering, I'd say I climb at least a V grade harder on average if not more stoned vs. not.  This is just my experience, and I'm not commenting on the efficacy and benefit one way or another regarding anyone but myself.

I have never tried so. But I read about CBD or THC mood moderator effect on the Canada Drugs website. I also know that it reduces inflammation, also can help climbers to deal with anxiety and stress. It increases serotonin levels in brain, which is a messenger that promotes the feelings of calmness, happiness, and well-being.

Pretty experienced here. Definitely too experienced. I don't recommend smoking spliff bowls with menthol tobacco for breakfast everyday but it's better than cigarettes. Side effects for me have included getting into trail running (Good music helps for sure, I ran my first 2 trail marathons last summer and smoked up before both of those)

And also bouldering solo where you get a little hazy and lost on purpose and start climbing sketchy rotting v1 slabby things with no pad you find on the back of random rocks in White Ranch Park is a great workout and good way to practice your mental game.

I gotta cut back for sure, and Its all tied into exercise and living healthy for me. Until then catch me smoking up in the far back corner of the movement lot before a sesh! Apologies for making it smell so nice

I prefer occasional visits with my business associate Dimitri or a touch of mycological intramental spelunking to the good green herb. Dispo strains are way too strong for me and I seldom come to any profound realizations or achieve introspective clarity on shrubbery.

Of course, my favorite vice is a blue pack of Spirits, but that's legitimately "bad" for you, so I try to save them for special occasions.

When I was a heavy smoker I truly believed being stoned made gym sessions more tolerable, helped with focus and specificity of movement while bouldering and eased anxiety related to fear while multipitching.

Now that I've been off the weed for a few months I realize that was all bullshit and all it did was make approaches more difficult and give me an excuse for not having one more burn at the end of the day. I've got nothing against anyone getting stoned, but I'm really glad I got off it.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
