Would you rather?

(A) fuck a sheep but no one thinks you did

(B) not fuck a sheep, but everyone thinks you did

Hmmm. It depends. What US state do I inhabit in this hypothetical scenario? My reputation is very important.

I dont have a garage. Youre right though, that thread caused a lot of folks a lot of pant changes! And I'm most of the way there. Thanks for checking in on me.

I watched two 5.13 gym climbers not be able to get off the ground on Arete Butler

Kevin was essentially implying that climbing multipitch slab is a complex skill.

Wrong again puppy lovr

Maybe you haven’t done much runout slab, and you just assume you can do it if it’s only rated 5.10, because you’ve sent 5.12 gym “slab”.

Or maybe you’re just a natural born slabmaster -

Climbing multi pitch slab is not complex - but there’s no way to get the experience required to relax and run it in the climbing gym, to route find on the run, and to know what your feet will stick to.

We definitely need an El Cap gym in the El Cap meadow to lower our impact on the natural landscape!

Seems like an indoor/outdoor thing, the gift being a top rope, or some good instruction, for example

Is that the same as being an old duffer?

Huh, and all those years I thought Hillary Duff was her given birth name, not an earned sobriquet.

What a strange thing to say. Especially for a grown adult.

Wow, that is a loaded assumption.

While the gym isn't perfect training for slab someone who can climb v10 in the gym is going to have a lot more diverse set of skills that someone who just climbs runout slab. More importantly most people don't live at the base of some 10 pitch slab route.

You seem quite fixated on the granite slab climbing, here is how I would train it in the gym. If the slab is more of an arete there are often huge holds/volumes these days you simply set a route that doesn't have any other feet so you are in continuous opposition. You wanna train smears then you mostly have volumes for feet.

The running out you can just make your climbing situation more dangerous like removing all padding or knives I guess.

There are a multitude of ways to improve at climbing and if your only option is to go to the gym, you are going to fair much better on any route than sitting at home and reading mountain project. Time after time we are proven that given some time, gym climbers will obliterate anyone in their discipline. Carlo Traversi, someone who quite literally attributes their climbing passion to being discovered in the gym sent the hardest slab in America.

Kevin do you have any examples of climbers in the last 10 years who started on granite slabs and became some of the best climbers in the world without a gym?

Gyms helped 5.13 go to 5.15 really quick so therefore people should probably focus on climbing in them more often. Climate control, pads all over, showers, no dogs, no dirty dirt, superb music, why climb outside? Outdoor climbing is so trad dad!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
