Cloud Ladder Via Ferrata The Future!
|
"The gateway to rock climbing" has arrived! Thanks for the link fix. $219 is pretty cheap, is it guided? |
|
A working link: Cloud Ladder A fluffy article for the puffy wearing people. The cost to go up the Cloud Ladder and the Peregrine route via ferratas in Estes Park is $219. Yikes! |
|
Is this at The Crags area? |

"At a couple of crucial points, you actually have to use the rock to step up, not just the cables and the rungs."

What an eyesore. It looks like a steep croquet course. |

Are there more of these in the plans for estes? |

Someone needs to chop this thing |

Philip Magistro wrote: So are routes that have been chopped in PMRP in the Red. I think the difference is the owners of that property would actually care that an investment in their land got ruined. In PMRP and MFRP, you can chop any route you dont like without any consequences whatsoever. Pretty cool, considering it only takes like 1/100th the amount of time to destroy something than to create it in the first place. |

Tradiban wrote: Exactly. I put up a 12d/13a via Ferrata that one person didn't like, so he went out and pissed all over it via his Ban Hammer. I guess I'm grateful they had enough respect for the rock they didnt break off all the holds, which I'm not sure if the property owners would have cared about either, so at least it can be rebolted. |

They really need to change it to "No VF in Sinks". Zip lines are next. Something about tourism is rotten. It's like Facebook went outside. The Alps, I get it. . |

^^^ Climbers are tourists, too. We're not special. |

FrankPS wrote: Oh yeah. The Tetons, and Sinks, are full of em. Definitely not special. The Disneyfication of it all is the issue. |

Teton Climber wrote: Good point but I still can't help but think this is the pot calling the kettle black. The entitlement on here is hilarious. We are but one of many user groups. |

zoso wrote: It isn't entitlement. Places like Teton County are truly harmed by industrial tourism. The VF is a money grab in Sinks. Its only purpose. I will add that the majority of people opposed to the VF in Lander are not climbers. The only "entitlement" they are protecting is a healthy ecosystem. _________ CN: "the whole notion of eco-friendly climbers becomes laughable" Defines Sinks Canyon. And everybody becomes laughable when it comes to the environment. A roller coaster swooping by the VF is what Sinks Canyon really needs. Can't complain about a coaster while climbers bolt the place into an outdoor hardware store. Other users need to be accommodated. |

Re the entitlement and one of many user groups, I was prepared to mount a defense of this charge. Unfortunately such a defense isn’t sustainable. When first ascenders refer to their work on public land mind you, as “route development” the whole notion of eco-friendly climbers becomes laughable. The crowds emerging from the gyms ARE just another user group, on par with via ferrata, zipline and gondola users. When these “developers” team up to more efficiently convert pristine cliffs into yet another page in the tour guide, I’m sorry, climbing guide, and then begin promoting “their” new development, well here, they are catering to their user groups using the same techniques as commercial developers. Vigilantes, untie! |

What, specifically, makes a via ferrata different from a bolted sport climb? Is it the drilling? Is it the scale of the drilling? Is it the lack of significant danger, after one has purchased or rented an extraordinarily high-tech energy absorbing lanyard? Is it that unathletic people don't deserve access to the mountains? Is it that an arbitrary line must be drawn that includes skiers and alpinists and excludes casual American vacationers? I'm serious. What is the specific, clear hangup here? |
