Why we won't let our children be climbers

little b neilwrote: Well, that would be Mrs Tradiban and myself. She prefers shooting guns over climbing... which might be an excellent idea! The shooting crowd is more family friendly than the climbing crowd. Anyone know of a good shooting club in socal? |

I would like to alert everyone to this young man's story regarding a nasty interaction at his home crag. This highlights just some of the concerns I have as a climbing parent. https://www.mountainproject.com/forum/topic/121011328/unfortunate-crag-interaction |

The story is inconclusive. Chances are they instigated the whole situation and feel quilty so he goes online to gain justification from people that were not there but love to be vitreous. As for for shielding your kids from sex, drugs, and rock n roll. May i suggest Colorado Springs. Great climbing and strongly religious. The occasional meth-smoking gay pastor who runs a megachruch could be an issue for you, but kids are safe. Good luck |

Pot smoking, foul mouthed climber here. Thanks for keeping your kids away from the crag. |

Tradibanwrote: if you think this is bad, you should check out the water polo forums... |

Maybe let them decide if they want to climb? My dad introduced me into mountaineering and i always chose to do it. If he made the choice to not let me do it idk how i would feel about it |

Redacted Redactedwrote: This leads me to my latest thoughts: little kids at the crags should seriously follow the same rules as dogs at crags. If you're at a crag out in the boonies with no one around, let them roam free, digging up dirt, or whatever they do. But if it's a busy crag, keep them close (maybe on a leash), make sure they're not being a nuisance or safety concern, they have water and snacks, and don't go up a climb with them just hanging out at the bottom. It's not my job to make sure your kid is safe. Also maybe tell them no from time to time. I'm not saying keep kids out of crags, just that, y'know, people tend to like well behaved pups and kids. |

I wish more parents felt like Tradi. Nothing like a screaming kid because they lost their " woobie" to fuck up a mellow hot boxing session. |

Tradibanwrote: If thats scary, what are Shawn Snyder's antics to you then? |

Mr Rogerswrote: I wouldn't bring my children around Shawn either, that doesn't mean he's guilty of everything he's accused of. Shawn is continuously provoked by the climbing illuminati and his responses are a result of that provocation. There's fine people on both sides, albeit not very many of them would be suitable parents. |

I'm just pointing out the fact your goal posts are seemingly akin to Schrödingers cat. |

Mr Rogerswrote: "Either you are with us or against us" is a tired script which truth has been debunked by countless Hollywood movie. The MP bullies enjoy seeing disagreement as black vs white as it's the lazy way to interpret a circumstance and an easy way to believe a personal truth. Nuance is hard, eh? |

Tradibanwrote: Peradventure. |

Tradibanwrote: See, there's no mental gymnastics needed. He just thinks Hollywood movies are a source of truth about the human experience. If you start there, any random-ass conclusion is possible. Though, if you also trust them to teach you basic physics, it's probably best to stay away from climbing. |
