Stoney Point Wet Rock Warning

It’s wide open now... Tuesday- see y’all later. |

I can't help myself. Here's Keesee on top of trashcan rock in Josh, lord knows when. Guy's got cred... |

Thanks Guy! There are lots of debates on FB about this. Some people seem offended when they are reminded that these climbs are a precious resource. In that spirit I have added the wet rock warning to every Stoney Point area and route in MP, plus I've added WARNING on the front page concerning wet rock and to wait 7 days for the rock to fully dry. |

Kris.... I think that photo was taken about the time ropes were invented. Chris- thanks for doing that. Most folks “get it” when I show them a flexible flake. Not sure about the 7 day rule- it depends on the history of the rain. Last week it “rained” maybe... We get really heavy fog sometimes in the am and you might need to use your wipers when driving. This drys quickly if the sunshine is out. Thanks to all. |

Guy Keeseewrote: Dumb question. I heard a rumor (which I'll unintentionally paraphrase poorly) at Red Rock if the top X inches of the ground is wet then the rock isn't dry. |
|
|
There is... It’s something like- if it’s not “Dusty as Fuck” don’t climb.. |

Gumby Kingwrote: Some people will say that if the ground at SP is wet at all, then the rock is not ready to be climbed. Trouble is, to figure out if the ground is wet, you'd need to drive out there. I'd be willing to bet that not too many people are willing to drive out there, park, and hike to the boulders--easy as it is at SP--then immediately pack up because the ground is damp. A simple number of days, though less accurate, is easier in practice. |

There's a little drizzle this morning at Stoney. It shouldn't take too long to dry but if there was anyone thinking about going out either today or in the next few days, I hope this message finds them well. |

River Simardwrote: Today 3-3-2021 it rained- for maybe 1 hour- not hard, the wind picked up and the sun is out. Like I said before- the rain that soaks in is the steady 24-48 hour kind. A quick hose down is different. |

Thursday 3-4 ..... My friend who lives in Chatsworth says it rained hard Wednesday, big puddles, still some this AM. So probably best to stay away till Fri at a minimum. The sun is out and it’s getting hot. I want to say something about Stoney rules. You line up for problems- you get 3 tries, then you go to the back of the line. If you put a pad at the base- others get to use it for that problem- do not tell folks “don’t step on my pad”..... that’s pretty cheesy IMHO. If you’re starting the down climb, and someone is doing a traverse below you- just wait a second till they are not below you. Yelling “get the F outta my way you Fag” is not going to gain you any friends and an impromptu crowd of angry people might just give you a hard time. At Stoney we are all about everybody, the climbing and the friends. So please check the angry BS at home. Going tonight to toss the Wamo around, get some gear back and drink a few cold ones. |

Thanks, Guy. And lest people get the wrong idea about this place, my experience has almost always been a positive one. Climbers have been generous with their pads, beta, and even beer and first aid. We do not tolerate aggro bs, full stop. Cheers. |

We were delivered a bunch of needed rain last night and today in Chatsworth and I imagine all of Southern California. March showers bring Flowers |

First of all, this thread is amazing. Thank you for all the local support. Surely beats getting out to the crag only to go home because of conditions! I see it rained yesterday. Looking at the weather and Saturday looks sunny which should help dry out the rock if there isn't any more rain. Can someone local update me if it stays dry today? If so, my partner and I would like to get a day in on Sunday. |

Dan... it’s been raining on and off all morning. It won’t be dry enough. If I was in Newport Beach I’d head to some Granite spots- Woodson, Mt Rebuidoux, Hemit or Victorville. Fun stuff- sort of like 3 pigs on super steroids. |

And some Art :) |

Gyms opened yesterday... maybe Stoney will get a little break |

Was this taken recently? If it doesn't rain, will it be alright to climb Stoney this weekend? |
