Mask recommendations for indoor climbing where required by law?

the adidas face masks are super comfortable and reasonably priced (3 for $20). haven't worn them climbing, since i've only been doing solo bouldering outdoors, but i forget i'm wearing them when i'm hiking, so long as i'm wearing contacts. they do fog up glasses pretty badly, though. |

Old navy Christmas 5 packs are $2.50 now and are really comfortable. Keep a spare or two for when they get damp and you’ll be in good shape for a session. I set all day wearing one and have no significant issues |

I'd say just get used to it. I've been using whatever mask I happened to have with me. Sucks for a bit, but then ime you kinda forget about it. It's not like running or aerobic activities either... |

Can someone explain how a mask can be comfortable from a breathing standpoint and still provide meaningful protection. Like gaiters do nothing but you can obviously breath like normal |

I started using a silicone insert recently, it's a game changer for sure. While it's little less comfortable at first, I soon forget I'm wearing it. Pair it with a mask that has adjustable ear loops for greater comfort. |

Honestly, I cannot believe that people are still up in arms about masks. Over the last month, my wife had 4 patients die, one doctor she worked with died, and a nursing home owner ended up on ventilator. She also had a 97 year-old patient come through it with nothing more than a mild fever. This virus is real, and it affects individuals differently. I mean for fucks sakes, CA had close to 500 deaths yesterday, and TX was over 300. Wearing a mask is but a minor inconvenience. |

SinRopa wrote: Someone at your gym is a selfish asshole. Straight up, breathing with a mask on is not that hard. It is marginally less comfortable, and it can be inconvenient to have to fix your mask at a clipping stance. If someone cant pull through single pitches indoors and blames it on masks, that's weak shit. (Not you specifically, SinRopa) |

"Studies that have evaluated the effects of N95, cloth or surgical masks on blood oxygenation or CO2 levels during exercise have either found no effect or very small effects (1-2 percent change) that are inconsequential for normal people. Even for patients with cardiopulmonary disease the changes are small." A mask may seem uncomfortable or fog your glasses. But it is not impairing breathing. |

Gym here actually discourages use of an N95 - I believe to keep less pressure on the supply chain for medical staff. I've been using the C2Summit (full disclosure, I work there) masks, they're nice. https://seatosummitusa.com/products/face-mask Still have the problem of those ear loops making the back of my ears kinda tender, but I can breath well enough in them, and they stay in place. |

Frank Steinwrote: Texas has had a mandatory mask rule for around 8 months now while the numbers do nothing but go up. If masks worked the virus would have been eliminated here already. In every gym, grocery store, etc around every person inside is wearing a mask you cannot enter without one on. Can you explain how it is that covid numbers have went up continuously while people are wearing masks if the masks supposedly work without arguing that it is because people aren't wearing them (which they are) and without blaming Trump rallies.? |

Sorry to hear that. Keep in mind that a hospital setting will (by definition) catch those folks that are wrecked enough to actually visit a hospital. We need to stop living in fear. Test your own intuitions against the CDC's own IFR (infection fatality rate) estimates, I bet you'll be surprised: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/planning-scenarios.html |

Randy Aristotlewrote: Yeah, wearing a mask, obviously, is living in fear. |

Randy Aristotlewrote: In the US we have 22 million infected. 374k dead. Daily deaths now above 4k per day and growing, with the Christmas surge only just starting to hit the books. Wearing a mask has nothing to do with fear, and everything to do with rational thought, which is sorely lacking in some quarters these days. |
