2021 Climbing Goals
|
|
Whatcha got? In 2020 I put a comical amount of specific climbs on my goal list and didn't even attempt half of them, so this year I've pared it down a bit and bumped the grades up a bit (not evidenced by my MP to-do list). Besides those I have some general goals
My MP To-do list is comically long but if anyone has any climbs in common and is in the front range and needs a partner, feel free to PM me. |

Might be biting off more than I can chew but my big goal for 2021 is to send Verve in Boulder Canyon |

I want to climb in all 50 states in 2021. Every year I try to do 50 of something, so this fits right in. If anyone has a suggestion of a rock to actually climb in Nebraska, I'm all ears! |

Going to have a kid, so will try to transform into a boulderer mostly climbing at the gym. Quick sessions, squeezed in. Compared to big trad missions it sounds lame, but I'm psyched for the transformation to dad and Boulder bro. |

Glenn Ritterwrote: Is this even possible? What about Florida and Louisiana, or can you just climb meth addicted alligators cruising mobility scooters through the aisles of Walmart there? In another note, I’d totally be up for something similar if I’m ever allowed back in the states again! (Disgruntled Brit here) My goal for next year is to climb more days outside than days worked consecutively... 2020 was not a good year for climbing... |

Have fun, get out as much as possible, continue climbing with my partner of 30+ years, let the wind blow through the holes in my head. I'd be very happy with that. |

- Increase my trad grade to 5.9 (currently 5.7, limited by head game) - Get into ice climbing - Do my first multipitch - Break into gym 5.12s (currently can onsight 5.10s) - All around "get better at climbing" goal |

Love these threads, always get me psyched. Also feel like verbalizing my goals helps keep me accountable. Mine is pretty simple this year: - Climb the N face of Rostrum & Astroman in “good style”. Hopefully flash but can’t be too bummed if it doesn’t go perfect. I have a good list of ‘sub-goals’ to get there, but that’s the one that matters. |

Finally send a 1000m alpine route that's beaten my partner and I back 3 years in a row now. |

And some easy fun scrambles like:

Bolt some new routes in the middle of nowhere. |

#1 finish the van build #2 break into 5.12 sport #3 break into 5.11 trad #4 increase multipitch efficiency |

Making it through these awful times OK, same for my family and friends, then being able to climb---ANYTHING, again--and then go out for a beer or 2 with a group of friends. |

Tal Mwrote: Last season was the first time I tried similar objectives. E.g. an "regular" onsight grade. I personally defined it as greater than coin flip odds I'll onsight. I feel it really helped me view my objectives in a different way and I really like the feel it gave my season - projects were everywhere!. I'm going to use that again next season.

I like this thread, good to see what other folks are working on and get some cool perspective
The list goes on and on obviously but this is the real meat and potatoes |

I can't set any goals, but hope to be able to climb again. |

Last year my goals were all grade based, which COVId sorta effed but I was able to meet some. This year I'm focusing on experience over grades: Bag my first Utah Desert tower Boulder in Leavenworth More trad leads Project hard (for me) sport more often Send V5 |

Get back to Tahquitz (I was on blood thinners most of the year, so I stayed away from trad) Get stronger (so much stopping and starting with the breaks and no gym, plus some health issue) Have fun Don't get hurt |
