Reel Rock 15 Group Ticket
|

I wonder how many people will catch COVID watching RR on group ticket? Side note, I’m surprised that RR would even offer group ticket option since climbers are so COVID conscious. |

In Matt's defense, $20/person streamed at home seems really overpriced |

Max Rwrote: One is a felony that authorities take seriously, the other is just kind of rude. Matt was going with the mantra, “sharing is caring,” and meant no harm. We live and we learn, people can stop crusading now. |

Max Rwrote: Apples & oranges: 1) An additional person viewing a digital media on the same TV incurs no additional cost to the producer, and no opportunity cost if that person wasn't willing to pay for it otherwise. 2) A dealership wouldn't have a parking lot gate w/ $50k to activate and then have an honor system where you are suppose to drive off w/ only 1 sprinter. We've had this battle dragging MPAA & RIAA into the digital age & if you want people to follow a system, it needs to be reasonable. |

Mark E Dixonwrote: Unprecedented and therefore very confusing, I'd say. $40 for a household couple to rent and watch at home isn't going to happen. I think most of us are going to pay $20 and put the whole family in front of the TV, maybe the kids watch it again the next day - just like every other movie we rent. When RR licenses their film out to an org that has an auditorium, it's a different model - one with a lot more costs and overhead. It looks to me like they're trying to apply that here - because like all of us, they want to put more money in their pocket. I just don't see it working. |

Mark E Dixonwrote: In my defense, I'm gonna get so soused when I watch it that I forget paying that much |

Max Rwrote: what an excellent comparison |

I was so stoked going in that they finally moved away from the Alex handhold film tour for once, then I saw that they had him "Hosting" it. 7.5/10, Black Ice was super rad. Coming from Jersey I can relate to a lot of those motifs. |

Reel Rock 15 was amazing. And I donated an additional $20 to MemphisRox and Reel Rock both to offset the bad juju you all gave me in this thread. Sorry to those who thought I was ripping them off, never my intention. And sorry to those who emailed me about chipping in for the film, I decided against it. |

I haven't watched the rest (and probably won't) but the Memphis Rox piece was inspiring. I've signed up as a monthly donor. Does anyone know of any other gyms following this model? I volunteered at a community bicycle shop with a similar bent in grad school and that short film really hit home. It's amazing that they're doing this with climbing. |

Matt, you got beat pretty hard here and took it well. the pricing and tix was confusing. Good final resolution. As for myself. I watched with one eye closed tonight, so I can watch guilt free some encores with the other eye over the weekend. |

jdejacewrote: I liked all of the films, but agreed, Memphis Rox was great. Geez...buy a couple lattes (with tip)....or support this place? Pretty easy decision. And? I went to the Bozeman ice fest last year. They start ice climbing, that first day climb? Me! I climbed there! As an almost new climber. My third shot at ice. I did the beginner women's clinic, with Ines Papert and Anna Pfaff. On the way back down, with Anna, we kept stopping and chatting with people she knew, or had met. One, was a youngish teen. He was on his way to meet Anker somewhere. As we walked on I asked if he was a relative, and she replied, "Oh no! He's a kid Conrad met here. They've been hanging out together all week!" It was very clear, that's just how he is. Myself? I was getting a personal escort back down the trail, from the pro. The other pro had walked me up, the last straggler. Yeah, it's their job, they are guiding at that point, after all, but still. The kindness to the slow, arthritic, old lady who was nonetheless stoked to be climbing ice as a total noob, was way more than I expected. I'm just me, but I'm proud to be part of a community that overlaps with people like this. If I ever meet that kid from Memphis? Maybe at Bozeman? I hope he's okay with some hugs. Figuring out what you can do, with what you got? Yeah, climbing is good for that. H. |

20 bucks is pretty much what it would cost to see in a theater during its tour. So... |

Glad this all got settled. On a side note, I still feel that charging $20 for a ticket that involves no venue rental fee, less hours spent planning premieres, less overhead in general, is a bad deal. I have years of experience planning ski movie premieres around the world for a well known company so I know the industry. Its a bit odd to charge the same price for someone to sit on their couch. |
