That looks great anyone else have experience with these?

Consensus in the other thread regarding the US Stainless biners was they are too stiff to clip for permas but worked well for anchors.

They sell these crazy things called captive pin steel carabiners.... no hokey looking JB weld project required.

... I have about 100 steel Djinns to trade if you feel like it. the jb weld once sanded and painted looks very low profile. i can get or find deals on just about everything and this is the most cost effective way.

The bottom link of the case harned tow chain gets a ball of JB weld pressed into it. it is then sanded and painted with primer and paint to match the rock. this is for Permas, even at whole sale this is more economical than cable draws.  Is it nicer? no, is it acceptable from  safety and visual stand point, definatly.

What color is the rock you are putting this on? Mine is kinda red or black so I don't think I am going to be able to make the perma discreet. To clarify you are using like 3/8'' zinc plated chain and a steel caraibiner. So this Chain + Steel Carabiner + JB Weld works? Do you have pictures of the end product?

Yeah let’s see a picture or two, I don’t doubt it’s safe, or clean looking. My concern is that it’s another homemade solution to replace actual climbing specific products. Products that are consistent and used universally among most crags.

Circling back to what I have said earlier, this presumes you can actually buy the specific product or buy it at a reasonable price. Also, I have been to so many crags that have anchors/bolts that I didn't even know existed, Hawaii crags alone use glue ins that are two inches wide and all the anchors are single rap rings that are 3 inches thick. I would definitely say there is not a consistent product everyone uses at most crags. I simply cannot find a perma at a reasonable price right now most perma options run about $25 and I need 40 of them.

Kinda seems like this discussion should be it's own thread? Just a friendly thought from a guy getting lots of off-topic email notifications. :-)

seems a bit steep, try these:

This is my go to for permas, looks like it's about $8 less than what you posted.  I also typically wait for sales and stock up when I can get them for less, I usually don't end up paying more than $15 per permadraw.

Great deal on the Bosch. However, it should be noted that this model does not have the latest technology in a brushless motor. Batteries reportedly last longer with the more efficent brushless design. The Bosch GBH18V-26 incorporates a brushless motor.

Thanks for the heads up on the brushless.  I still bought it because I bolt very infrequently and don't want to shell out 4-600 for a brushless setup.

I'm going to read through this thread, anyone know of deals on bits?

Go to a local hardware store and tell them your cute and how many bits it takes for a good deal. ;)

When you're cute like me you don't need to tell them.

I'm not an expert but my understanding is that brushless motors are only significantly more efficient than brushed motors when they are running at reduced power. In bolting applications you're pretty much pedal to the metal the whole time so I don't think it makes as big of a difference. It would be interesting to see someone do a direct comparison in rock.

Ebay is my go to on bits, I consistently find great deals on there.

Yeah, I'm not an expert either, but I have both the 36V bosch compact brushless, and the 18V drill listed above, and I haven't ever noticed the 18V to be less powerful, or to get less holes than the 36V brushless.  Obviously it's not an apples to apples comparison, but the 18V brushed drill has been great.

Depends on the amount you want (shipping costs) but Zoro has been my goto recently.  3/8 and 1/2 Bosch Xtremes are cheap there.  eBay sometimes for metric but that's also getting better with Zoro

USRigging.com is offering 18% off orders over $99. Use CRAZY18 at checkout. I use them for stainless quick links, they have a pretty wide inventory. Not completely sure how long it’s good for, maybe the rest of the month

Had a couple people email recently asking if these are still available. I have several boxes of these left at $46/box + shipping. Can ship one box for $8.40 or up to four for $15.05

How many in a box

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
