Climate Change and 2020 Ballot Measure 2C - Please consider a VOTE NO on 2C!

I'm a long time climber and filmmaker. Salathe in 1974 and learned to climb in Eldorado Springs in 1968. I'm writing to encourage the climbing community in Boulder to visit the website empowerourfuture.org to learn about how Xcel Energy, which currently runs the state's massive coal-fired plant in Pueblo, is ramrodding this 2020 ballot measure. I've recently produced a number of commercials for Empower our Future featuring thought leaders in Boulder and my position is VOTE NO on 2C. I believe the recent, pervasive fires and extreme summer heat etce etc. are in-our-face reminders that climate change is here. Partnering with the state's largest polluter for 20 years with "promises" to hit renewable energy goals is precisely what we should AVOID. And guess what they are calling this "deal?" BOULDER's GREAT GREEN DEAL!" You can't make this shit up! We can attain a 100% renewable portfolio for this town by 2030 by staying out of franchise Xcel. Boulder is in the process of creating our own Public LOCAL utility and it will in the long run save us money and position us as leaders in the global commitment to a Green Revolution. btw: when I lead the ear pitch in 74 ... I found a PERFECT, BOMBER #4 hex placement 2/3's the way out the bomb bay chimney. I was facing out with my green Chouinard boots and getting sketched. Then I looked around and right behind my right ear was a hole. I reached done, 25 feet out, and grabbed that hex and I'll NEVER forget that it literally fit like a key. It went in and then slide down the crack with a perfect "ca-thunk" and folks I was SAVED! I wonder if others have found and used that behind your head keyhole? A scary pitch then, I knew I was destined to lead it, when we drew leads at the base. I attended a slide show in Chem 140 in 1969? when Frost, Robbins and crew came through town and Frost described his lead! I think it was Tom... anyway my hands got VERY moist that night ... It sounded horrifying. Fast forward 5 years and I left our belay without saying much. Indelible memory for me because I was scared but resolved to go up and give it my very best shot without being crippled by fear. The lesson to me was ... when entering the darkness, the unknown go with hope, and faith and be extremely present and mindful. Good things can come from that mindset. BC |

Even though I don't live in the City of Boulder, so I can't vote on 2C, I'm with Carmichael all the way! Vote NO and help Boulder stand up to a monopoly. |

the opposition to this ballot proposal is due to the ongoing cost. we have to suck it up and pay for tackling the climate problem. what is it worth to us NOT to have these fires and heat waves and massive hurricanes in the future? it won't be free, especially with our federal government backing away from any reasonable policy. i voted NO and urge everyone to do so. |

Just wanted to mention that the NOVA episode on PBS this Wednesday was all about Global Warming from the build-up of CO2 gas in the atmosphere. The main message was two-fold. In order to get the the climate back to where it should be we need to: 1) REMOVE most of the accumulated CO2 we've put into the atmosphere over the last 100 years, and 2) stop making it worse by adding more. |
